The girl looked at the couples walking the streets- alive, happy, together- and she began to cry. Not because she missed life. No. Because she missed Madoka. She wished they were alive and together, but this was okay. She'd spent countless timelines trying to save Madoka, and now they were together.
"Homura?" The pink haired goddess appeared beside her, as if she'd sensed her sorrow. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." She smiled at her. The beautiful girl who had sacrificed so much for other's happiness. "I just can't believe that you're here…"
"I can hardly believe it either. After everything that happened, after learning how many times you tried to save me and all you did, we're finally together."
"We are."
"I'm so happy to see you like this. You no longer have to fight. I'm so sorry for everything that happened."
"You have nothing to be sorry for… If anything, I'm the one who's sorry."
"Don't be. Everything is fine." She put her arm around her. "We're okay, now."
"I always dreamed of this. I hoped one day you and I would be able to be happy and safe… All I wanted was just one day like this. Now it's finally a reality. You have no idea how long I've wanted this."
"I've wanted this, too, Homura. You were always such a wonderful friend…"
"Friend…"
"What is it?"
"It's just… Madoka, you are so much more than a friend to me. A friend could never be as precious to me as you are. I would never love a friend this much!"
"Homura, do you love me?" The girl smiled, both knowingly and anxiously.
She wondered if the goddess knew her feelings… that she was in love with hope itself. That the girl she loved was simply a concept. "I do."
"Well, that's a relief. I was worried you didn't feel the same way."
"Madoka?" Her eyes widened with the same wonder they once expressed.
"I love you, Homura."
"Madoka!" She wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close, finally not out of reach. "Madoka- you have no idea how happy I am. I love you, too."
"I know that. I thought I was content with my new life… but one thing was missing. You."
Homura opened her eyes. Once again, Madoka was gone. Just like that. Tears fell down her face. Madoka was gone. She wasn't happy as she was before, watching over her as the Law of Cycles… She was back with her, yet, Homura couldn't feel worse.
She tried to let the dream fade, but it wouldn't.
She would never forget, never stop dreaming of what could have. Of what should have been.
