It all started when I was leaving my favorite pizza place, Jungle Karma Pizza, with my best friend Eli. It was a Friday, and me and him always went there on Fridays. We were just walking home the usual way, until Eli made us stop and look in a dark alley three blocks away from his house and my apartment complex.
"Hey, do you see that?" Eli whispered to me. I shrugged.
"I plenty of things, Eli. What do you mean by 'that'?" I said.
"That green light coming from that alley."
"No. I don't see any green light" I said, looking around for what Eli meant.
"C'mon, it's right over there." said Eli. He grabbed my hand and pulled me into the alley. "Whoa." he breathed.
I would've said 'whoa' too, but I was speechless. In front of us sat a... being with a goat head. Its eyes were bloodshot and it looked like it really needed some medical attention. I just stared at it, my jaw practically touching the floor. "Quinn, what should we do?" Eli asked, panicked.
"Um, sit him up against the wall." I replied. Me and Eli grabbed his arms, or uh, tentacles and helped him up.
The thing started to cough. Then it stirred and locked his bloodshot goat eyes on mine. "You... shall...succeed...me." it bleated. Its tentacles twitched and handed me a green thing that looked like an old-timey lantern. It gave off a dull green light and, oddly enough, I felt really drawn to it, like it gave me some sort of strength. "Take this," A grey ring floated in front of me and I snatched it out of the air. "and use it wisely." He coughed again, this time a thick yellow fluid came up.
"E, do you think that's his blood? Oh god.."
"Eli, I think he's dead." I sputtered out, but just as I had spoken the words, the alien was beamed away in a flash of green light. "Whoa." said Eli.
"Let's go home." he said. I nodded and we got up and ran away until we got to my apartment building. I waved goodbye to Eli, too shaken to say anything, and with that I went to the elevator that went to my floor.
When I got to my apartment, 223B, my neighbor was outside. He dad probably just gotten back too. "Hello, Mr. Scott." I greet him. Mr. Scott was an elderly man, but he was still really cool. "Why hello, miss Adams. You have a good night." he smiled.
"You too Mr. Scott." I said. I saluted him and went into my apartment. My mom wasn't there, so I just went to bed in my clothes.
I didn't learn about what the ring could do until the next week.
