Shira woke up early in the morning, to the sunlight. She looked around her, the herd was asleep she looked lastly at Diego who still had his arm wrapped around her. She smiled and wiggled out of his grasp and was about to go out, "Up already?" Shira had been pondering about the upcoming holiday that Shira didn't even notice that Ellie was up. "Yeah, I couldn't sleep anymore." "Are you excited for Christmas?" Shira's face fell slightly at the mention of Christmas. "You ok?" The sabre nodded her head. After talking a bit more the girls decided to go get some decorations to decorate the clearing. Shortly after the girls left the boys and Peaches woke up. "I wonder where Ellie and Shira are?" Sid said, "Probably getting away from your stench." Diego said smirking. Suddenly they heard someone crying and Shira ran passed she was the one crying. "What happened?" Manny and Diego asked at the same time to Ellie. "I don't know, all I did was ask her what she did during Christmas time with her family and she just ran off crying." Diego had a look of concern on his face "Shira?" Shira looked at Diego "What's wrong?" he said, "did Ellie offend you or something?" "No, it's just the fact that I never had any good Christmas memories." "What do you mean?" The sabre asked, "Come on, let's go for a walk and I'll tell you.
Flashback
The snow was falling, it was nighttime, and it was Christmas Eve. Here, Shira is a cub, and also a gray fur and the only one in her pack. Her mother explained to Shira a couple of days ago how Christmas was spent. "Now remember Shira" her mother had said, "Christmas is a time to be with family and friends." Shira was excited. But just as she and her mother were at the clearing, Rufus, Shira's father came up to them. "What is she doing here" her father hissed, "she's not supposed to be here!" "Rufus, please its Christmas." Her mother began, but Rufus cut her off. "She has gray fur therefore she is a curse!" Suddenly an idea came to Rufus. "You know what, I think I have the perfect present for our daughter." He roughly took Shira by the scruff of her neck, took her a little ways away, and started beating her.
End of Flashback
"And that's what my father would do to me every Christmas Eve and Christmas Day." Sighed Shira, she had stopped crying while telling Diego of her past. "And Gutt never celebrated Christmas either." Diego nuzzled her affectionately, "Well you know that none of the herd members are like that." Now come on, I want to show you something." Diego led Shira back to the clearing and when they got there, everything was decorated with things for Christmas "So, what do you think?" Diego and the rest of the herd looked at her "I love it, it's so amazing!" She said. "Good, because there's something I want to tell you." "What?" Shira wondered, Diego leaned closer to her and whispered, "I love you." Shira's eyes widened in shock. "I love you too Diego." She said nuzzling him, and for the first time Shira felt as if she found the true meaning of Christmas.
