Faith

From the beginning, Dean had believed in Castiel. He could see in the marks on his shoulders and in the deep, cerulean blue of the angel's eyes that he cared about him, perhaps more than anyone else ever had. And, he was proved correct time and time again such as when the seemingly good, little soilder had acted against his own in order to protect humans who should have meant nothing to him other than a means to an ends.

He had saved him from both Lucifer and Michael in that field, and gotten himself destroyed in the process. At night it haunted his dreams as Dean still remembered the explosion and the parts of Cas that rained down upon them, drenching them all in his blood. He had died for them, making the greatest of sacrifices even though it was fighting against the only family that he had ever known.

And when he was found to be alive, Dean was so happy. He refused to see the subtle changes that the others noted. He knew the angel, this was the creature that had lifted him from perdition, whose prints were permanently engraved on his shoulder as a connection that nothing either human or supernatural could possibly break.

So, when his friends and family suggested that Cas was betraying them, he didn't believe it. Everyone else in his life had lied to him or disappointed him on countless occasions, but not Cas. As an angel, he had always been the best, faithful and honest so Dean expected nothing less. He couldn't or he didn't know what would happen, because a man can only take so much before he too self-destructs.

While they were planning and scheming what to do to the supposed traitor, Dean was sitting in the corner pouting. He had looked deep into those mesmerizing blue eyes and seen the truth, glinting there, even brighter than his grace. It was spectacular, dazzling to see a being of that magnitude who gave even a second of his time to care for two broken men.

Where his father had ignored him, where Sam had failed him, Cas had always been there. He could count, on one hand, the number of times the angel had ignored him, and when he did, it was all for good reason, because there was nothing that he could do. How could he fault that when he understood helplessness better than anyone else? And at the moment, the angel was stuck in helplessness, trying to fight his way out tooth and nail, and Dean understood that too. Despite the other's strong belief in the opposite, Dean chose to believe in Cas who had never hurt him, because while he may not trust some diety who supposedly watched over them, he believed in Castiel, the angel who would never let him down.
