Another story, so for the length.

First time writing about Sirius, so I hope I've done him justice. Thanks!

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter

Could one really be ashamed of themselves this much?

Sirius Black was sure he knew the answer to this tired question and…well it happened to be a sad yes.

The handsome youth fell back onto his bed, nursing a swollen eye. The tender flesh could easily be healed if he just went to the infirmary, but he didn't.

James had given him this medal of shame, and Sirius Black would wear it so he knew.

So James would know the Sirius wanted to apologize from the bottom of his heart

"She sent me a letter…I didn't know what to do. Reply or not? She said it was a mistake, but I'm not sure if she meant her behavior or me," muttered Sirius, hanging from the old tree's branches.

He looked down onto his best friends, some old and others new. James' blue eyes met his as he frowned, leaning his head into Lily's lap.

The tall red head's hand brushes through the raven locks.

She purses her lips, wanting to put her two cents in badly, but knows she shouldn't.

"Perhaps your mum is really just trying to be friendly," exclaims quiet Remus, not really sure what to say.

Lily's eyebrow rises, still wanting to say what she knows she shouldn't.

Sirius watches them all from the high branch, hair falling into his eyes. He wants to know, he needs to know he did the right thing by leaving his family.

He needs to know his decision was justified, even if he doubted himself sometimes.

Finally Lily's twitching lips break free, words falling from her mouth.

"Or she's just a banshee in disguise. Honestly how foolish can you be Sirius? She doesn't want your forgiveness! She just needs a Death Eater son to be proud of!"

Her eyes widen as she covers her mouth looking at the silent form of Sirius Black.

Suddenly he turns, the look of a pureblood in his eyes.

"How…how dare you? A filthy mud blood has no right to say those things about my mum! I don't care what she's done, you have no say in the matter!" he shouted, landing on the ground.

His face paled as he seemed to then recognize the words that floated around them. Lily's face reddened as she stood, James' head landing on the ground.

"Well, excuse me…sir! I wouldn't want to dirty your presence, right?" she hisses, quickly walking off, shoulders beginning to shake.

Sirius steps forward to say something, when instantly pain sears from his eye throughout his entire body, sending him to his knees.

Before him stands a livid James Potter, a look in his friend's eyes he has never seen before. Sirius' usually smart mouth stays silent as he looks at the intimidating form of his friend.

"What is wrong with you? How DARE you, my family took you in! You of all people should know I consider Lily family! Our family," he shouts, kicking out his foot, sending dirt on the boy's form.

Remus and Peter seem to be at a loss of words, but both give out angry glares. As James gathers his things to leave, they also do the same, as Sirius is silent.

He can already feel the bruise forming.

Nursing his tender face, Sirius glances at the forlorn letter on his dresser.

He knew Lily was right, he was certain everyone had thought the same thing. Only she had, had the guts to tell him to his face what his mother was. But it…well it hurt, to be told things about the woman who had given birth to him.

Hanging his head, he collapses into his pillow, hot tears of shame falling down his face. Sirius Black should not feel this way, not so guilty over someone his friend loves. He should not feel these feelings for Lily Evans, not her.

Sirius' arms wrap around himself…as if debating on if he should be set free of himself. He is ashamed that he has let his family ruin things for him once again.
