It was late at night when the doorbell rang. Barry was taking a shower, so Iris walked to the door and opened it. At her door step was he sister-in-law Mary West and he nephew Wally.

"Rudolph left us," Mary said, as if that one line explained everything.

Iris pulled Wally into a hug when she say his eyes fill with tears. Her nephew had only been a metahuman for three months at this point.

"I can't take care of Wally right now. My income will barely support me alone. I love my son, Iris so I'm doing what's best for him. Please take care of him," Mrs. West pleaded with a hint of desperation in her eyes.

Two feelings warred withing Iris, anger that Mary is abandoning Wally like her brother did and empathy for Wally in that Mary really couldn't keep him fed and healthy on her income.

"We'll keep him Marry, but you are making this legal. Sign custody over to us. This does not mean you can stay out of Wally's life though. I want you to visit him as often as you can," Barry said as he walked into the living room dressed in his sleeping pants, hair still wet.

Mary swallowed and removed a folder from her purse.

The desperate mother handed the folder to Barry before saying,"In there is a paper signed by me, giving the both of you custody. His birth certificate and social security card are in there as well."

Wally quickly turned around and his aunt let him go before he hugged his mom tightly.

"Mom please! I love you! I'll try to eat less! I'll work odd jobs! Please!" the 10 year old pleaded, agony almost visible in his voice.

Mary the hugged her son and began crying as well.

"We've gone over this Wallace. I love you, and am only doing this because with me you'd starve. You're too young to work. Uncle Barry and Aunt Iris will take care of you. You've done nothing wrong," she said trying to reassure her son while she rubbed soothing circles on his back.

Barry watched them for a few moment before he picked up the suitcases.

"I'll pick up the rest of his stuff tomorrow," he promised before taking the suitcases to the nicest guest room.

Eventually Wally let his mother go and moved back to Iris' side.

Mary said a few goodbyes to them before she left.

As soon as Iris had closed the door Wally fell to his knees emotionally and physically exhausted.

Barry had quickly reentered the living room and picked Wally up before carrying him to bed. The young West was asleep before Barry finished tucking him in.

Iris walked to her husband and hugged him.

"We'll take care of him," Barry promised.

"I know we will."
