A/N: I REALLY didn't want to write anything like this, but I heard the song when I got the album for my birthday in March, and this thing never left me alone.
Also, I don't own The Secret World of Arrietty or any song by Chris Daughtry, much less this one. It's too damn sad.
Arrietty – Open Up Your Eyes
The poor crying girl could not contain her emotions. It simply wasn't fair. After all of this, why did this have to happen to him? Why him? She sat on a small stone, clutching a white rose in her hands, and was bitterly weeping into it.
She could still remember the day he said those words. Ever since then, she had hoped that he would be wrong, that what he had said later that night had driven him to succeed, but it seemed that God had other plans. She knew that He was doing what was right, but He never said she wouldn't feel what she was feeling.
She was there the day that Spiller came to tell her the heartbreaking news. He went in, but didn't come back out, at least not alive. Everything in the world stopped when she heard the terrifying and monotonous flatline. Her heart had been utterly destroyed. Her most precious friend in the world was now gone. And she never had the chance to tell her how she truly felt about him. Her father let her wear a black version of her Borrowing dress to the hillside, where they would lay the poor bean to rest. Spiller accompanied her, bowing his head in reverence. The two hid in a nearby bush, close enough so they could see what was happening, but far enough away so that no one else could see them.
Within the next day, the emotional turmoil of the events that unfolded caused her body to go into a state of shock, where her body completely shut down. It was almost as if she had lost her will to live. Her parents were devastated as they wept by her bedside, and Spiller was just as hurt, but Arrietty smiled at them.
"At least, if I die," she said weakly, "I'll see him on the other side." She smiled softly, closed her eyes, and breathed her last.
Spiller and her parents sobbed for a long time after they placed her in the matchbox-coffin, but they promised he would be stronger for her, at least until the day they joined her in Paradise with her beloved bean.
She blinked as the light became stronger, and saw many different people all crowded around her. They were dressed in bright white tunics tied to their bodies with ropes that seemed to be made of gold. One of those people, a young boy, walked up to her. She gasped with amazement as she recognized him.
"Shawn…" she whispered, breathlessly.
He was now her size, or was she his size now? At first she thought the first, and then thought the other, and she could never make up her mind after that. He smiled at her and held her hand in his.
"Welcome home, Arrietty," he said happily.
There! I posted it! Happy now, brain?
