In the fic "I found a reason" by "the frauline" Roger sees his sister playing in a garden, and the world around her all appears to be dying, as winter approaches. He decides he is going to write a song about it. The first part of this song is based on that scene.
Disclaimer: I don't own RENT, but technically this is almost my song, inspired by a fic based off of rent...
Tiny little girl, she's playing in the leaves
Tiny ray of sunshine, brings a thousand memories
A tiny bit of joy within this world of looming death
Some beauty and some life, before the looming winter's breath
Tiny little girl, she's playing in the leaves
Tiny ray of sunshine, brings a thousand memories
Brings back the summer, when I wasn't growing cold
Now I'm standing in the winter's air
And watching the baby girl grow old
-
How sad to watch the years pass by
How sad to watch her slowly die
How could a child's joy, be molded into pain
How can I watch, yet not go insane
How can I watch, and not lend my hand
How can I see this and not take a stand
How can I see her go through so much strife
Yet never intervene until, at stake is her own life
-
Tiny little ray of sunshine, has grown up, quite a bit
The tiny little ray of sunshine, fought through each and every hit
Not so tiny ray of sunshine, isn't playing in the leaves
Never will the ray of moonlight be so strikingly naive
Not so tiny ray of moonlight, is shaded by the trees
Not so tiny ray of moonlight brings back all those memories
Of my tiny ray of sunshine, and of how she disappeared
And now I have a ray of moonlight,
And a basketful of wasted years
-
How sad to watch the years pass by
How sad to watch her slowly die
How could a child's joy be molded into pain
How is it, after everything, I am still sane
How sad to watch, the moonlight fade
How then at dawn, when the sky is gloomy gray
How do I watch, the moonlight leave my life
Replaced by emptiness, the ache left after strife
-
My shining ray of moonlight, has left me all alone
My shining ray of moonlight left me shaken to the bone
So now that ray of moonlight, is a clouded, gloomy dawn
I see her, and remember golden sunshine on the lawn
But after gloomy dawn, a tiny ray of sunshine is born
She's playing, sunny happy, though the world around her is torn
Tiny ray of sunshine, she is playing in the leaves
And that tiny ray of sunshine, brings a thousand memories
