So this was just a tiny thing I wrote in like 5 mins. It's very political, but honestly, it's how I see Alfred. It's about the current healthcare bill reform...feel free to review, and if you don't liek, feel free to tell me. :D
This was partly written in response to all the wayyy too liberal or wayy too conservative fics i've been seeing a lot lately.
He was uncertain.
That, he was certain of. Everything else was a mystery. The man across from him smiled at him, and Alfred smiled back weakly and nodded. A grin spreading across his face, the man leaned over, his pen moving across the surface. He finished, paused, and looked up, "Well Alfred. We did it."
Alfred smiled again, weakly, his spirits lifted at hearing the man's deep voice. That voice that had convinced Alfred to chose the man before him. That voice that had inspired him, had pushed him. Nonetheless…he frowned slightly as he looked at the bill before him. Was it the right thing to do? He didn't know.
"It's for the people. Now everyone will be taken care of."
Again, Alfred nodded. Change was good, right? Wasn't that how America had been formed, through change? But this…was it going too far? What was too far?
There were five components to the American creed. Five components that Alfred had always tried to live by, five things he had tried to build his life around. A lassiez-faire economy. Egalitarianism. Equality. Populism. Individualism.
These five things conflicted many times. Too much equality led to communism, which in turn always led to totalitarianism. Too much individualism led to anarchy. There always had to be a delicate balance between the five, a perfect balance. Alfred had spent his entire life searching for that balance, and was confident, once he had that balance, he would be the ideal nation. However…this balance had evaded him for years. The conflict between the five had torn him up, had resulted in his Civil War, had led to arguments, chaos.
And now this new bill…it was promoting equality at the cost of individualism. But was that so wrong? Was it so wrong for Alfred to want to provide for those that could not provide for themselves? They were his people too, and he loved them, right?
So he passed the bill. He allowed it to go through, ignoring the nagging doubts in the back of his mind. It had been a hard, dirty battle. The tactics used to get the bill through had been…unsavory. Wrong, actually. But did it matter? Did the ends justify the means?
His people were torn on this issue. Some were ecstatic. Others were furious. He had heard the heated debates, had seen the arguments.
"…Everyone will be provided for!"
"…impinging on basic rights…"
"Cost of hospital visits driven down…"
"Violation of the Constitution…"
They had battered, back and for the, bouncing about his head, giving him a terrible headache. Argument after argument. It's good for the people, it violates our rights. It's change. It's too much change.
Again, the only thing Alfred was certain of was that he was uncertain.
Again, plz comment. If you don't liek, feel free to say so, just don't throw out random insults. I'm fine with insults, so long you back them up with an argument.
A million thanks to Kiesha for fixing one super-stupid mistake a i made XD
