A/N: Here's another twin story. I figured James and Amber needed to talk more over the situation but given chaos of what was going on I don't blame them. Please read and review!
A Better Choice
He nearly messed up the special day for everyone but who could blame him? James had found out that he wasn't really the future heir to Enchancia thanks to his grandmother and aunt Tilly. The young prince felt hurt by this news.
That evening after the wedding festivity's had ended, the guests had left and wishing their aunt and uncle Bartlby luck in their marriage Roland instructed the servants to clean up and retire for the day.
The royal family was now sitting in the parlor and drinking tea with the Grand Queen. They had to visit with her some before she left but James wasn't paying much attention to what was being said in the conversation at hand. He was still going over the events of the day in his head.
While the grown-ups were busy talking and Sofia was listening to them Amber turned her attention to her twin and saw how unhappy he looked. Was he still feeling guilty about today's events? Ha he forgotten that she had forgiven him? Perhaps, she needed to remind him.
Setting down her cup of tea gently on the saucer the blonde girl got up from her seat, walked up to the boy and tapped his shoulder. "James, may I have a word with you?"
"Sure." James said sadly as he pushed his chair back and followed Amber into another room so they wouldn't be overheard in the hallway.
Once they were alone Amber gripped her skirts in her fists nervously to try to think of a way to start the conversation. After giving it some thought she smoothed out her dress and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry that this heir to throne situation turned on you, James. I know how much you were looking forward to taking on the job. You had your future all sorted out but I guess if grandmother and aunt Tilly hadn't straightened that out we probably would have broken a law and the future royals of Enchancia probably would have been doing the same."
A smile finally broke the frown he had worn all day making James laugh. "Yeah, but it is for the best." He answered "If I still had been heir I would have messed up everything anyway, I can't remember all those royal greetings like you can. As for the other stuff I probably...well you get the idea."
Amber nodded but blushed a bit at the compliment that was given to her. While Amber did enjoy receiving compliments like she had been given today she did not see that coming.
"And besides I think being a knight in the future is the better choice for me. It had always interested me better all this heir stuff."
"I agree, if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have been able to have aunt Tilly's wedding or the cake for that matter."
"But you came up with the plan."
"It was sibling team effort that saved the day, James, credit should be given to all of us today."
"Well, I guess that's true. I'm sorry for messing up everything and for not believing you had changed in your personality." James said as he rubbed the back of his head in nervousness.
I've already forgiven you, James you don't need to apologize again."
With the situation between the twins solved the two of them hugged and headed back towards the parlor.
"James."
"Yeah?"
"If we ever have a wedding here again please don't mess it up. For all we know the next one could be mine!" Amber said with smirk. "I don't want to see all those years of planning wasted!"
A chuckle escaped the boy's lips "I'll try not to. If you want I'll even protect the cake!"
"As long as you don't dig in before me or my future husband,"
"Oh, Amber..."
A/N: I know it's really short but this was planned to be short. Please review!
