It always confused her. She could never understand how an entire village population could confuse her for not only being a boy but as she recently learned, the Kyuubi reborn in human form. Now normally it wouldn't be too impossible for people to make a gender mistake on someone else, but when most of the village population is made up of ninjas, people who are suppose to see beneath lies and deceit, then its just both humorous and sad.
But she's getting ahead of herself. Her name was Naruko Uzumaki and she was born 12 years ago on October 10, also the night that the Nine Tailed Fox Kyuubi attacked the village. It was also the night that said demon was sealed inside of her to protect the village. Only the older generation, the people who can remember that night, know that the Fox is really still alive. The number of people that know she's really a girl is much smaller, numbering in only three people, not including herself. These three people were Old Man Hokage, the leader of there village. Old Man Tuichi, who owns a ramen stand that she eats at. And finally Old Man Tuichi's daughter Ayame.
Old Man Hokage knows because he's the one that gave her an apartment when she was six when the orphanage kicked her out. He also set up a monthly stipend/allowance that she lives off of. Old Man Tuichi and Ayame know because they try to help her when they can. Giving her ramen even when she doesn't have the money to pay. That and Ayame-nee-chan was the one that spoke too her when she started puberty. When she had been younger she could never understand why Jii-san would say it was too dangerous for anyone to know that she was a girl.
She knew that the villagers and younger ninja who knew about the fox didn't like her. Some had used to gather to try and beat her when she was younger. It wasn't until she was ten and in her second year at the Shinobi Academy that she learned why the Old Man wanted it kept secret from the civilians and younger ninja. That had been the year that she learned that Konouchi of any age were sometime captured and raped. The Old Man didn't want to take a chance that someone in the village might go that far in hurting her in there misplaced anger.
Up until she graduated a week ago she had been wearing a seal that served two functions. One was to create a Genjutsu on her that would make her appear as a boy. The other function was to create a cloak of chakra so thick anyone with a Dojutsu wouldn't have been able to see through it to try and look through or release the Genjutsu. Now that she was a ninja though they could release the seal because if anyone attacked her, it wouldn't just be assault but also treason, which was punishable by death. The only problem she was with releasing the seal was how her classmates and eventual two teammates were going to react when they found out she had actually been a girl the four years that they had been training to become ninja. Oh well. Guess she'll just have to wait till class tomorrow to find out.
