Running through the streets, I ignored the rain pelting me. It didn't matter at this point. I was too busy trying to block out the memory of what I had just saw. It was too painful. Too hard to witness. The rain mixed with the tears on my face, which were flowing freely of their own accord. The city landscape reduced as I ran, slowly turning into natural land. I turned a bend to my favourite place. The one place where no one could disturb me. The only peaceful place for miles. The rain was still pouring down, but the leaves of the oak tree shielded me from them. I sat down on the wet Earth, putting my head in my hands. I still couldn't bear to think about it, but I did. And it just made it worse. I'm not sure how long I was there, but I'm sure it was a long while. I didn't care. Nothing would matter anymore. I picked up the dagger at my side, studying it's silver carvings. I remembered what he had said when he gave it to me.
'' It's kind of rusty, but I'm sure you'll be able to fight with it. ''
'' Jake! I love it! You're the best brother ever! ''
'' Hehe, anything for you, Rhona. ''
He had written my name in the hilt in ancient Irish. I swallowed the lump in my mouth.'' For you, brother. '' I whispered, raising it to my neck. Before I could slit my throat, something knocked it out of my hand and pinned me to the ground. I looked up at the familiar chameleon face.
'' Rhona! What are you doing?! '' Espio asked, with a shocked look on his face. His golden eyes displayed worry, which was very rare for my ninja friend, who usually displayed no emotion.
'' Nothing!'' I snarled at him ( Which is quite easy when you're a wolf. ).
He picked up my dagger. '' You call this nothing? You were about to kill yourself! ''
I silently stared at the blade, looking at my reflection. My hazel eyes were red and puffy from crying. I had managed to make a small cut on my neck, the blood mixing with my wine-red fur and staining my grey shirt.
'' Let me finish it, Espio. Let me end my misery. '' I demanded angrily.
'' You can't let yourself get like this. Not after what happened. ''
He had a point.
'' I-I just want to stop the pain. '' I said shakily.
'' Look at yourself, Rhona. Is this how Jake would've wanted you to be? ''
That was it. He had officially crossed the line.
'' DON'T TELL ME ABOUT MY OWN BROTHER! '' I roared with fury, snatching my dagger out of his hand, and in one slick movement had him pinned to the ground. The tip of the blade was inches from his face, which didn't show panic, or sadness or fear. It was his normal, emotionless face.
'' Come on then, Rhona. Kill me. I just hope you'll realise how wrong this is. '' He said. I had been wrong when I thought he had shown no emotion. His whole expression showed one thing; pain. I hadn't inflicted any damage on him in anyway with my knife, and small bruises were nothing to him. I knew what kind of pain it was. I'd experienced it first hand.
It was the kind of pain when someone you love is hurt, and you know nothing you do can help them.
