Meteor Shower

It seemed like just another evening. They were quietly lounging in a chair in her living room, enfolded in each others' arms. He softly whispered into her ear that he had a surprise for her, and he asked that she just follow without questioning him. She was in the process of opening her mouth to protest when her eyes wandered to his, and she became immobilized by the deep sincerity, honesty, and admiration she found in them. He took this moment as an opportunity to quickly but gently lead her out the door and to his car. As she buckled herself up in the passenger seat, he swiftly pulled a blindfold from his back pocket and wrapped it around her head, covering her eyes. "No peeking," he whispered, as he tied the blindfold so that it snugly but securely stayed in place. He shut her door, and went around to the driver's side, a small smile on his lips at the idea of what he had planned.

They drove for almost 45 minutes, leaving the lights of the small town far behind them. The buildings they passed grew farther and farther apart, until there were only trees on the side of the road. They were silent for the most part, and she only asked him about their destination once, to which he replied by reminding her that it was a surprise. He let out a small chuckle as he saw her mouth turn downward into a pout. Finally, he turned left into a side road, drove for a while, and smoothly parked the car. She was about to take off her blindfold when he appeared at her side, holding her hands in his. "Not yet," he whispered, and he lifted her out of her seat and led her forward a few steps.

"Now," he said, a smile apparent in his voice, and she quickly untied the blindfold. The sight before her made her gasp in awe and her eyes widen. She was standing near the edge of a cliff, and the marvelous night sky above her was lit with many bright meteors streaking across it. She took in the scenery around her with a childlike wonder, and he slowly approached her from behind and wrapped his arms around her. "Thank you," she murmured, "It's beautiful."

As he looked into her bright eyes and held her small, warm form, he agreed that it was beautiful, but not because of the night sky above. As he took in her beauty, he came to a realization. Although he thought that Romeo had made many mistakes and destroyed his own happiness, he admitted that Romeo had gotten one thing right. "I ne'er saw true beauty till this night," he quoted.
