"Annabeth?" It was a Tuesday afternoon after school, and Percy and Annabeth were having a study date. Mostly so Annabeth could help Percy with his homework, but there were other reasons, too.

"Yes, Percy?"

"Hypothetically speaking, what would you do if somebody better than me came along?" This was a completely unrelated question, so it caught Annabeth more than a bit off guard.

"What?"

"You know, like, somebody better for you than me comes along? What would you do?" Ah. She could see where this was going.

"Well, Seaweed Brain, I'm not sure what you mean by better for me than you. Could you explain that?"

"Well, somebody that's more attractive, smarter, funnier, that sort of thing." Annabeth smirked.

"Is this about Austin hitting on me at lunch?" He looked up at her a little worriedly.

"Maybe… But could you please answer the original question?"

Annabeth knew what was going on maybe even better than Percy did. He wasn't being jealous. No, that wasn't it. He was simply worried. Worried about losing one of the extremely few constant things in his life, and Zeus knows that there weren't enough. Really, every day he had to worry about monsters, the Greek Pantheon, his lifespan, his mother, his schoolwork, the well-being of Camp Half-Blood, and around five billion other things. Annabeth was something constant. She could take care of herself most of the time. She already did exceptionally well in school. He didn't have to constantly worry about her.

"Perce, I'm not leaving you. Ever." He looked up at her with really worried eyes, like she was lying to him or something.

"Promise?"

"I swear it on the River Styx." Thunder rumbled in the distance, making it so she would have to abide by that promise forever. Percy shut his eyes, counted to ten, and re-opened them.

"You shouldn't have done that, you know." Annabeth shrugged her shoulders.

"Maybe not. But I'm never leaving you now, am I?"

"No."

"See? Point proven. Now, back to your Algebra. How about for every question you get right, you get to kiss me."

That was the hardest Annabeth had ever seen Percy work on Algebra, and the most questions he had ever gotten right on the first try.
