Disclaimer: I don't own Cats in anyway. I just wrote this and posted it here. Mostly for a friend.
Crash and Burn
"Jenny! No, wait! Come back!" Skimbleshanks ran as fast as he could toward the Old Gumbi Cat. His brow was dripping with sweat. "I've GOT to catch her!" he thought to himself.
Up ahead, Jennyanydots was running as fast as her legs could go toward the nearest train station. "I can't take this any longer! I've got to get out!" Her eyes saw fury and anger. Her usually better judgment was clouded over by confusion. Confusion and hurt.
"Jenny, please stop!" Skimble was growing weary, but he was very close. Just a few more feet...
Suddenly, Jenny froze in her tracks and slumped to the ground. Her brain on overload; her heart on the verge of a break. Skimble rushed to her side.
"Jenny! Are you all right?"
"Skimble.." The words seemed almost inaudible as Jenny tried to muster all her strength.
"Please, Jenny! Tell me what's wrong! I can help!"
"Skimble..." the queen whispered once again. "I can't..." Her eyes drooping shut, just an inch from death and never opening again.
"Can't what? Come on Jenny!" A small tear fell from the tom's eyes and fell on the ground. He wasn't one to show emotions, but he felt he had to. For her.
"I can't keep doing this Skimble. It's too much. Trying to live up to expectations, and then getting run all over. I can't take it anymore. I have to get out." The words seemed to pour from Jenny's lips. The secrets that the proper cat has hidden deep inside are finally revealed.
"Jenny! You can't go!" Skimbleshanks lifted Jenny into his wide arms. "Come on Jenny. We can get through this. Together."
"Skimble, just please tell me..." The cat seemed to slip off further. Her voice getting more and more faint with each passing breath.
"Anything Jenny. What is it you want me to tell you?" His eyes widened slowly, a slight sparkle hit them. A glint of hope still lingered in the air.
"Just tell me... that you. love. me." Jennyanydots closed her eyes for the last time. The last time to see light ever again. Relieved from her darkness, yet completely impaled by it. Finally in peace.
"Oh Jenny! I love you! I do!" Another tear rolled down Skimble's cheek as he stood there holding on to her limp body. After an hour that seemed to last forever, Skimble rose slowly, picked Jenny all the way off the cold ground, and carried her to the other cats in the yard.
