The society knows best.
It's been four years since the Rising took over and cured the plague for good. Everything has changed; people can marry whomever they like, poetry, art, music, and writing are being practiced in all cities, you can have whatever job you like, hand writing is being taught in every school, there is no more forgetting, no more planned death at age eighty, and no more society. I have to go to the city hall in Central today, the old Pilot just died and he said that I was to be the new Pilot. They will do some kind of ceremony and I will become the leader of this new world that we have created. I don't know if I should be excited or scared. On one hand it should be an honor to become the new Pilot but on the other I'm scared ill mess up and hurt everyone. I put on a yellow knee length dress that is so soft to the touch, and I have brown sandals to match the dress. As I walk up to the mirror I see that my hair is a mess. With a sigh I grab my brush and start brushing my long brown hair, which need cut very badly. I then take a pin from the drawer, braid my hair back in a nice tight braid then put the pin in to keep it in place.
When I walk out of my house the cold spring air hits me harder than I thought it would. I compose myself before I walk to the train station, the same train station I went to all those years ago. I stop and think of all the places I went to from this train station. Grandpas, school, the hill, and away off in to the outer provinces; this is also where they took Ky away from me. The ripped him out of my life and I went to hell and back getting him back, but it was all worth it. I love Ky and he loves me and that's all that matters. The train pulls up to the platform blowing paper all over, I step on and I'm on my way to Central. The trains are a lot smoother then they use to be the Rising has made a lot of new technology, and not just everyday things. Before the Pilot died he took me to a base out past the outer provinces where they had built a prototype of two of these fast flying small hovercrafts called planes. They also had been working on weapons; Xander and Laney have been working on new medication for a number of different things as well. By now they should already have many planes and weapons built. The Pilot told me while we were there that one day the Society would come back and they will be a formidable foe. I don't know if I believe him or not.
The train stops right in front of the town hall, I get out of the train and make way up the cold steps and in to the building. As I walk through the large wood doors I see the most amazing sight, its Ky. Ky has been gone for over a month going all over try to help and teach people in any way he could. I run at him and he sees me and opens his arms for me to embrace him. He is so warm and he still smells like dirt, he has gotten stronger I can feel his muscles as he hugs me. After a long minute he lets go and give me a big kiss.
"Hey Cassia, how have you been? Didn't miss me to much I hope." He says. His voice sounds just as I remember
"Better now that you're here." I say with a smile
"Well we better go or you'll be late to your own ceremony"
Ky and I walk down the long halls of the town hall to a large room in the center. When I look in the room I get even happier then I already was. I see everyone I know just about. Xander, Laney, my mom, Bram and a whole bunch I didn't know but looked very happy to see me. A young man at the door showed Ky and I to our seats which were at the same table as my mom and Bram, our table is right in the front middle. After I sit down a man walks up to the stage in the very front of the room.
The man started by saying. "Ladies and gentlemen we are here to day not to mourn the old Pilot but to bring in a new. She's strong willed and has been though trials after trials for what she believes in. No matter what she thinks of other above herself and helps whenever she can."
I look over at Ky who is just smiling stupidly at me, I give him a little push and roll my eyes and listen to the man.
"This maybe a hard job but I think I'm speaking for everyone here when I say we think she can do it." Then everyone started clapping and the man waved me to come on to stage. Wait I didn't know I had to speak why didn't anyone tell me. I look to Ky who just give me a nod. I walk up the stage and go to the podium.
"He-Hello um I'm very happy for all of you to be here and that you believe in me. I will not let you down as Pilot I will do my best… for all of you, and this is my promise." I say
Then the room went dark and there was a large crash.
