True friends

Chapter 1: Jesse returns

Disclaimer: I own Glee on DVD and CD but that's it.

Sam had been best friends with Jesse ST James since he was five years old but that friendship ended when Sam's older sister died at the age of fourteen and lost her life to Cancer and Jesse skipped town with his family. It wasn't until the day of the third year anniversary that Jesse turned up in the choir room.

''Sam?'' asked Jesse as Sam looked up.

''What are you doing here, Jesse? I haven't seen you since my sister died!'' said Sam as Finn and Rachel looked at him in shock.

''You're still angry with me?'' asked Jesse as Sam screeched at him.

''Of course I am! You skipped town while my sister lay in a hospital bed dying!'' Sam screeched at Jesse.

Flashback

Thirteen year old Sam Evans walked the halls of Lima General Hospital, looking for his big sister, Layla. Lalya had Hodgkin's Lymphoma and didn't have much time left to live. She had wires and needles attached to her pale body, the chemotherapy medication being pumped into her bloodstream.

''Layla?'' asked Sam as he walked into the room.

''Baby brother, why the sad face?'' asked Layla in a raspy voice as Sam sat down in a plastic chair next to her bed.

''Because you're dying and I'll never see you again!'' said Sam, sniffling and wiping his eyes. Layla noticed this and took her little brother's hand.

''I want you to promise me something'' said Layla, taking her brother's hand and squeezing it with all the strength she could gather.

''Anything sis'' said Sam as he looked over at his older sister.

''Promise me you won't be sad when you visit my grave and tell me the good things in your life and keep dreaming'' said Layla as she shot a weak smile at her brother.

''I promise'' said Sam as he let go of his sister's hand. Layla Evans died a week later and that was the day Sam's life got turned upside down.

End flashback

''I'm really sorry, Sam'' said Jesse as he tried to put his arm around Sam's shoulders but Sam jerked away just in time.

''No Jesse! If you were a real friend, you wouldn't have left!'' said Sam as he jerked away from his ex-best friend.

''Sam, I'm...'' said Jesse as Sam pushed him towards the door before he could finish his sentence.

''Just go, Jesse'' said Sam as he blinked back the tears in his eyes.

''But I...'' said Jesse before he was suddenly pushed out the door.

''GO!'' yelled Sam as he pushed his ex-best friend out the door, turning around to see the stunned looks on the rest of New Direction's faces.
