Treasure Hunter

"Hey!" Yelled Bartz as he opened a treasure chest. But the silly little monkey, Zidane, grabbed the treasure that the chest contained first. It was 200gil. Bartz stood up and put his hands on his hips.

"That wasn't very fair, Zidane!" He called to the thief that ran away to find more treasure.

"Come on, Bartz! It's a race!" Zidane grinned. Bartz shook his head and sighed.

"But I found it first..." He mumbled. Zidane obviously was testing Bartz's skills.

"Alright, Zidane. You want to see me at my best? I'll show you my best." Bartz said to himself. He spotted a treasure chest and headed for it. Zidane saw it to, and they raced to get it. Bartz opened the chest and quickly grabbed the treasure, just as Zidane was reaching for it. Bartz slammed the chest lid on Zidane's fingers. Zidane let out a yelp and shook his hand rapidly. He sucked in a deep breath. Bartz laughed.

"Got you, didn't I? That's what you get, you little thief!" He said. Zidane smiled and shrugged.

"You got me."

Squall was walking out of a gateway, and looked at his map.

"Let me see, the next gateway is-" Before Squall could finish his sentence, the wanderer and thief ran by him.

"I'm getting the next one!" Zidane said.

"Hey, wait up!" Bartz called, chasing after Zidane. Squall sighed in annoyance.

"Those two are still around?" He said. Bartz and Zidane asked Squall if he wanted to travel with them to find their crystals, but Squall refused and wanted to go his own path. He figured that they were long gone now, but no. They were right outside the gateway. And he just saw them!

Squall sighed and folded back his map. It was then that the duo noticed him.

"Oh, hey, Squall!" Zidane said, "want to join us in our race?" Squall glared at him.

"No. I told you that this was a 'battlefield' and not a 'playground'. Why are you two hunting for treasure anyway? You should be more concerned about looking for your crystal."

"Well, we're only trying to have fun." Bartz said, by the way, Zidane. I'm not losing to you!" He ran after Zidane and almost grabbed him by the tail. But Zidane jumped into a nearby tree and stuck his tongue at Bartz.

"Pthhhh! Whatsa matter, Bartz? Can't climb a tree? Hahahaha!" Zidane said. Bartz smirked.

"I told you I wasn't losing to you, Zidane!" He said. Then he started to climb the tree! Zidane's eyes grew wide and he let out a surprised monkey shriek. Bartz was getting closer with every branch he climbed higher. Zidane looked around for an escape. But to his dismay, there was no way to go but down. So Zidane did it. Then tree was at least sixteen feet high. And Zidane jumped down that height!

Bartz was halfway up the tree and stared at the jumping Zidane, mouth agape wide. Zidane landed on the ground and ran away. He wasn't injured, it seemed. Bartz was surprised that Zidane didn't break his legs or anything.

Squall had been watching them. He shook his head and sighed. He put a hand over his forehead.

"They are so hopeless." Then he walked away to the next gateway.
