He wondered what it was like to feel nothing.

He let out a quiet chuckle at that; he, with too many emotions, feeling nothing? It was best to leave that to her, he thought. She was fine like that, just as he was with his anger.

He heard footsteps behind him and turned to look as she settled beside him on the cliff. Apparently, his face looked distressed, because he heard her ask if he was alright, or something along those lines.

He was going to say yes, he was fine, like always, but he wasn't fine and he wasn't going to lie to her.

"You're an idiot."

Her mouth opened, probably to say how Nasods were far superior to humans, but he cut her off with an angry glance and more words.

"You're so stupid, and selfish, cutting off your emotions! How could you do that to us, just leave us?!"

He usually wasn't this angry; he wondered if it was his arm, or maybe just his emotions.

"Are you feeling.." she paused for a moment.

"Angry?"

He shook his head.

"No, I'm not angry! I'm upset and… in love."

He couldn't have said those words to her at any other time, but if she couldn't feel, it didn't matter anyway. What did any of this matter? He bit his lip, hard, feeling blood rush into his mouth.

"Rena talks about this 'love' a lot. I believe that she may harbor that feeling for one of our members."

Her voice was so monotonous, so uncaring, that he had to turn away to keep himself from shouting. Damn her and her choices!

"Yeah, she does. But does it even matter to you?"

He snapped the last words more than he meant to. Beside him, she stiffened; maybe she could still feel, if only the smallest bit. He wanted to test that, he realized. And if she couldn't feel, she couldn't hate him.

So he turned, grabbed her stiffly by the shoulders, and kissed her.

She stayed stiff beneath his grip as he leaned against her cold body, waiting for her to do something, anything, that could show that she was still in there.

She didn't move.

He pulled away and ran. He couldn't be here with her anymore.

She wasn't Eve.
