"Hey! Get back here you sonuva—N—STAHP!" Lightning heard when he stepped into his sister's Radiator Springs house.
"Becca?" He called.
"In the living room!" She called back, followed by "Get back here! You are not gonna—oh my god he did. Let me pass you, dang it!"
Lightning stepped onto the familiar pale purple rug of his sister's living room floor. Green walls and purple floor. What was it with Rebecca and green and purple?
He looked over at Becca. She was sitting on the edge of her couch, playing what looked to be an awfully violent game of Mario Kart.
"I feel like you're doing this just to spite me." Lightning narrowed his eyes.
Becca laughed. "Well, not this time, at least. But I have thought about it."
Lightning watched for a moment while his sister struggled to pass the car in first place.
"Yes!" Becca cheered, the controller almost flying out of her hand. "Finally!" She laughed, finishing in first place.
"Congratulations." Lightning sarcastically applauded. "Anyway, I need a favor."
"What this time?" Becca groaned, falling back onto her couch.
"Sally's in L.A. on a case,"
"Yeah, knew that. So?"
"So, could I have dinner with you tonight?"
"Too lazy to cook for yourself?" Becca grinned.
Lightning smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry, man. I'm goin' to Flo's tonight." Becca smiled apologetically as she stretched her arms over her head.
"Aw, come on, Becca..." Lightning groaned.
Becca rolled her eyes. "Come along and I'll pay."
"Okay!" Lightning grinned, and skipped toward the door. "See ya later!" He called, and left.
Becca lightly groaned and once again fell back against her couch. Glancing over at the clock, and seeing that it was nearly ten in the morning, she realized she had been occupied with playing than she had planned.
"Guess I should probably take a shower and stuff…" She sighed.
...
Becca was combing through her wet hair when her cell phone rang. She flipped it open and put it on speaker.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Rebecca." Replied a voice Becca wasn't familiar with. Gingerly, she placed down her comb and brought the phone to her ear.
"Who is this? Lightning, your British accent needs improvement." She shot with a frown.
"No, this is not your brother." The voice replied.
Becca hesitated. "Then why are you calling me? Who are you?"
"No one that you know personally."
Becca let out an exasperated sigh. "Then how do you know my name?"
"I do my research."
Becca stopped to think again, a bit more annoyed with the guy's responses than concerned with the situation. "And who would you be?"
"For now, just know me as—"
"Axlerod! Where do you want these?" Called another voice, interrupting the first.
"You idiot! What are you doing here!?" Demanded an angry man who appeared to be German.
"It was Grem's idea!" The second voice defended.
"What? No, it wasn't!" A fourth voice yelled.
"Out!" The German barked.
There was an angry sigh. "We're watching you, Rebecca."
The other end hung up.
Becca nearly slammed her phone down onto the bathroom counter.
"Axlerod? The dangerous criminal Axlerod? The Axlerod that nearly got her brother killed? Why the hell would he be…" Becca whispered to herself.
"He... He probably just wants someone to scare... Yeah, that's it..." She told herself. For a moment she believed what she came up with, but her paranoia got the best of her. The next thing she knew she was running towards Siddeley's jet, where Finn, Holley, and Sid most likely were.
...
"Anyone home?" Becca called, knocking on the side of the hangar door. Quickly looking around, Becca determined that Siddeley was the only one aboard. She swallowed. Great… Just Sid…
"Becca?" Siddeley turned from whatever he was doing? "What are you doing here?"
"I-I need your guy's help." Becca replied, looking off to the side as she played with her damp hair. She decided she wouldn't be able to focus on what she was saying if she looked directly at the guy she had fallen for a while back.
"Is something wrong?" He asked, walking over towards her.
"Um… This is gonna sound kinda weird, but… Ha-have you gotten word, by chance, that Axlerod's escaped?"
"I don't think so, why...?"
"He... Never mind." Becca shook her head and smiled. "It's probably nothing."
"Huh? If you think Lightning may be in danger or som—"
"I-it's fine, really. I think I'm just being paranoid." She turned to walk away. "Thanks for listening, anyway." She called over her shoulder.
"I… You're welcome…?" Siddeley murmured. "That was weird…" He turned away, rubbing the back of his neck.
See? He's still in prison. There's nothing to worry about, Becca thought to herself.
Siddeley was about to return to what he was working on before Becca showed up when his phone buzzed. Taking it out he saw he had a message from Finn.
Keep on the lookout for anything suspicious. HQ says Axlerod's escaped.
Siddeley looked up from the screen to Becca, who was getting further away. He called her name and ran after her.
"Becca!" He called again, slowing to a stop as she turned to face him. "I just got word that he's loose. What happened?"
"He is?" Becca's eyes widened a bit. "He… I think he and some of his goons called me."
"Are you positive?" Siddeley asked. "Why would he…?" Siddeley wondered aloud, looking off to the side.
"It was really creepy, he... Knew my name, not to mention I have no idea how he got my number… He said he was watching me, and… That was pretty much it."
"…excuse me a moment." Siddeley told her and took out his phone. "I'm calling Finn." He declared.
…
"Alright, Rebecca, can you tell us what happened?" Finn asked.
"I'd be more comfortable if you didn't treat this like an interrogation..." Becca grumpily replied.
"Sorry." Finn shrugged. "Really, though," He motioned for her to continue.
"Can you tell us everything that happened this morning before he called you, as well?" Holley cut in.
"Sure, yeah." Becca nodded. "After I got up and had some breakfast, I decided to play some wii for a while. Lightning came over, and we made plans to have dinner at Flo's tonight. After he left, I took a shower and while I was getting ready afterwards, my phone rang."
"And it was Axlerod?" Finn confirmed.
"Yeah." Becca nodded. "When I answered, Axlerod basically told me he knew who I was and… I dunno, creepy stuff like that. When I asked who he was, some guy in the background called him Axlerod. Some German guy snapped at him and before he hung up, Axlerod told me that they were watching me." She finished.
Finn and Holley exchanged a glance.
"But why do they want you...?" Finn mumbled aloud.
"Becca, if you notice anything strange or out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to call us." Holley told her. Becca nodded.
"Thank you." Becca sighed.
"Thank you. Maybe we'll have a proper lead on him this time around." Finn sighed.
...
"Crap…" Becca sighed, making her way to Flo's. She was supposed to meet Lightning at the café ten minutes ago. She burst through the front doors to see Lightning waiting for her at a table.
"Hey!" He greeted across the restaurant. "What took you so long?" He grinned.
"Sorry!" Becca nervously laughed. "I lost track of time." She excused, which wasn't entirely untrue. She decided to keep her reasoning behind it from Lightning, however. She knew how worried he could get.
"So, anything new with Sally?" Becca changed the subject.
"Just that we're married, but, everyone knew that." Lightning smiled over his menu.
"Whaaat?" Becca replied with mock surprise. "You're married?" She asked again. "Well congratulations, you two, oh mah gah…"
Lightning laughed. "Guess that's what I get for goin' on about it. I'm just so happy, ya know...?"
Becca replied with another sarcastic answer. "Yeah. I can relate totally." She laughed.
"Hey, Becca, don't worry. You'll find someone someday. You know that, right?"
"Yeah, sure..." She laughed again. Just then Mia came over, took their orders, and left.
"Just think how Mia and Tia feel." Lightning quietly joked. "Bet they wanted to marry me?"
"Oh-h-h yeah. No doubt about that." Becca laughed, and took a sip of her orange crush.
"So, what'd you talk to Sid about today?" Lightning asked, and Becca just barely avoided spewing her drink all over the table, which quickly translated into a coughing fit.
"Woah!" Lightning exclaimed, grabbing a handful of napkins for his sister. "The heck's the matter?"
Becca coughed a bit more into a napkin and groaned. "Geez, you stalker. I just wanted to talk to him." She cleared her throat and wiped her mouth.
"Is that why Finn and Holley came over, too?" Lightning frowned.
"Ugh… Can we not talk here, please? Everyone's already staring at us because of my sitcom coughing fit." She groaned.
"No. I'm worried about you." Lightning mildly glared across the table.
Becca let out an audibly exasperated groan. "Fine. Axelrod is probably stalking me."
Now Lightning nearly spewed his coke all over the table followed by a coughing fit.
"You see? You see?!" Becca crossed her arms. "Now more people are starring at us!"
"He's what? You mean he's out of prison? How?"
"The crap should I know? I didn't even wanna tell you the details of it." Becca rolled her eyes.
"Who's out of prison?" Flo asked. The siblings realized the café was silenced as well by Lightning's outburst.
Becca glared at Lightning. He knew better than to say anything about what they just discussed.
"Um. Princess rainbow man?" He suggested. "He's going to rein havoc on the world now that he's free..."
Becca nodded encouragingly, though she was trying not to crack up.
"Alright, then..." Flo almost laughed herself, but turned to serve more customers.
The rest of their meal went by without incident. Lightning and Becca went to their separate homes, and settled down for bed.
We're watching you, Rebecca. Is all Becca heard going through her mind as she lay in bed. We're watching you. Groaning, she closed her eyes and turned onto her side. "Stupid stalker… Playing games with my head." With one more sigh, she settled down to fall asleep.
