Elena stood in the mirror, smoothing her dress. She bent down, fastening her heels as she heard a knock at the door. She glanced into the mirror and saw the reflection of Damon. She had officially moved from his room into one of the open ones. "Can I help you?" she asked. "I thought you might need a date you can't eat." he said, walking in, sporting his tux and bow-tie. "Can't eat? You forget…I've eaten you before Damon." she remarked. She caught Damon's smirk in the mirror as she put the final touches on her make-up. "I didn't forget." he chuckled. Elena finally spun around to face him. "Have you decided to be fun tonight?" she asked. He pushed her into the dresser, leaning down and placing a gentle kiss on her throat. "Your way, Elena." he murmured against her skin. Elena smirked. "I think you'll find my way is more fun." she teased, straightening his bow tie playfully.

Elena rode into the school parking lot with Damon. He led her in on his arm and they took the dance floor together. After the first song ended, the DJ for the night took the mic. "Hello Mystic High! Welcome to Prom 2013!" he spoke. The room cheered but Elena was busy whispering something in Damon's ear about sneaking away and doing it in his car."Before we start the night's festivities officially we want to take a moment to honor a student who couldn't be here tonight." The DJ continued. "We're going to have a few moments of silence as we dedicate this song to Jeremy Gilbert." Elena froze. Her head jerked toward Damon suddenly. "Did you do this? Was this some brilliant plan to make me feel again?" she demanded. "No, Elena. Of course not. Your way, I told you." he said. Elena started to storm away and he grabbed her arm, pulling her back. "Let go of me, Damon!" she screamed, luckily, it couldn't be heard above the music. She knew the song, it was one of Jeremy's favorites.

Suddenly, in a rush of panic, Damon grabbed Elena and pulled her closer, crashing his lips down on her's. She knew what it was…an attempt to shut her up…make her feel something…anything. And she did…for a flicker of a second, she gave in to the one person she knew would love her no matter what. Her hand moved to his face, kissing him back. And just as suddenly as it began, it was over, Elena was pushing him off of her, her entire body shaking with rage. "You felt something."he accused. "Stop dreaming. I feel nothing for you, Damon." she spat. Reaching over to a girl that was standing alone, everyone else was staring at a slideshow of pictures of Jeremy. Elena reached around, snapping the girl's neck and leaning her against Damon. "You tell me when you're ready to give up." she said, sauntering away. "Because until you do, you might as well keep a shovel handy…you're going to have a lot of graves to dig." she warned.

Elena moved around the corner, heading into the bathroom. "Get out." she demanded, compelling people to leave. She locked the door and leaned against it, a single tear streaming down her face. She wiped it away and stared into the mirror, recomposing herself. She felt nothing. She reminded herself. Turning, she walked out, running straight into Stefan. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked. "Of course." She smirked. "Why wouldn't I be?" she didn't give him time to answer. Instead, she ran a finger down his tie and stared up at him, batting her eyelashes. "Dance with me?" she asked.
