Cole sat looking at the woman he once felt an all-encompassing love for as she leafed through papers on her desk, looking exasperated. He had been suprised at first when she called him in for an interview about him saving the girl, but soon found out it wasn't her choice to do so.
"All right, let's get this over with, shall we? sigh What was going through you're mind while you were in the fire?" "Well," Cole decided "if she wants to be bitchy about it, I can make her even bitchier, hehehehe." "Uh, well...I was hoping one of the powers I picked up in the demonic wasteland would protect me from the flames." He inwardly laughed his ass off at her reaction, but managed not to let it show. " No, no, I'm sorry, I'll uh...I'll reign it in" She sighed and asked again. He decided to answer with the truth."I was thinking um, I hope I make it out of this, I'd hate to never see my wife again."
Her reaction sparked something though, and as he said one thing, his mind was thinking something else. The part of him that loved Phoebe was talking, while the common sense part of him was thinking "Why do I love her at all?" Finally, he couldn't take it anymore and got up to leave. But Phoebe couldn't leave it at that. "Cole...evil is inside of you. Its who you are, and no amount of good deeds will ever change that." Cole finally snapped. "I've heard of others who thought like that, and their thinking lead to the Crusades, slavery, and the Holocaust. You judge people by WHAT they are, not WHO they are, and if I had realized earlier that you were such a bigot, I never would have married you.
Phoebe was dumbstruck, but soon got over it. "WHAT! The difference is that those people were human, you're not! There is no such thing as a good demon." Cole laughed at this. "One, I AM a human, or at least half, or did you forget that? Two, there are plenty of good demons, more than you could possibly imagine. They just stay hidden because witches don't look at good and evil, they look at demon and human." "Oh yeah," Phoebe replied,"you were SO good when you were the Source."
"How did you expect me to fight that? I WAS POSSESED!" Cole almost yelled. "Huh?" It was then Cole realized it. Phoebe didn't know. She was supposed to know him better than anyone, but she never saw that he was being controlled by the Source. "I don't belive this, You never even thought to question why I went evil, did you?" "I..I..I thought...""You thought I was just a mindless evil demon, which just further proves my point! You never saw me as a man unless I was without my powers, other than that I was just a pet project, 'Try to reform the demon.'" Cole laughed bitterly before looking up at his wife. "I'll have the divorce papers signed and sent to you, and after that, I never want to see you again."
Cole walked out of the building feeling as if a great weight was lifted off his chest. He smiled, feeling free for the fist time in three years.
