Hollow
Regina should have felt overjoyed, seeing Mary Margret lying there. All these years wanting her dead and now it was happening. But she didn't feel victorious at all. She felt hollow inside.
Mary Margret's eyes fluttered open and Regina grabbed her hand, squeezing. Mary Margret smiled and said, "Doesn't feel as good as you imagined, huh?"
Regina shook her head vigorously, mumbling, "No, Snow. It really doesn't. Did I...I mean I never cast a spell to..."
Mary Margret shook her had weakly and said, "It's not your fault. You did nothing wrong. Dr. Whale says cancer is genetic. Even in the Enchanted Forest, I still would have developed this. It was just an inevitability." She then said to Regina, her small voice fluttering like a wounded butterfly, "I forgive you. For everything. Revenge...it's so easy to seek when you're hurt. Forgiveness, that's the hard thing." She took a wheezing gasp, and Regina gripped her hand tighter.
Regina downcasted her eyes. This wasn't right. She should be able to fix this. But she knew it was useless. No spell she had, no potion, no apothecary's ointment, nothing could stop what was coming.
She was taken by surprised as Mary Margret grabbed her by the collar and pulled her close, whispering to her, "Take care of Henry. He's going to need you in his life more than ever before, so you need to be a rock for him, mother."
She let go and fell back onto the mattress as the EKG started to beep loudly. Regina's eyes widened as she said, "Snow?"
Once again, she asked in confusion, "Snow?!" Then the machine flatlined, as she let out a mighty wail that brought David, Emma, and Henry rushing in, Emma's arms wrapping around the woman and turning her away quickly. "SNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!"
