Hermione ran as fast as she could, not knowing where her legs were taking her, totally unaware of her destination. She just knew that she had to be far away from him - away from the madness that was Draco Malfoy. She could feel the salty tears on the verge of spilling and the erratic beating of her heart. It happened every time she saw him with other girls, laughing and goofing around like he was happy, when he clearly wasn't.
Finally, she reached the Astronomy Tower. Taking support of the railings, she tried hard to focus on her breathing - in and out…in and out. No matter how hard she tried, the image of Draco and Pansy passionately kissing each other totally unaware of her presence, just wouldn't fade away. The suffocation in her chest only increased, instead of going away.
Couldn't he be brave for once and tell everyone how he actually felt? Couldn't Draco take charge, and tell Hermione that he loved her instead of trying to push her away? Couldn't he just tell his parents that he didn't want to be the slave of the Dark Lord like they were? Couldn't he just…
Two warm arms encircled her, and she could smell the familiar scent of Ginny's rose shampoo. Ginny was the only one who knew about Draco and Hermione, the only one who understood her without judging. Hermione desperately clung to her friend, as Ginny rubbed soothing circles on her back.
"He, he…." She tried to speak but no words came out. As always though, Ginny understood everything.
"I know sweetie, I know." The Weasley girl sat there for hours as her friend slowly tried to gain herself back.
