When the lease is up on your flat, it's a minor inconvenience. Little by little, most of your stuff has already made its way to Brenda's apartment, tidy and taking up scant space. You transfer a few books, a small box of memorabilia, and call a charity shop for the rest. It's all shabby, as if you'd taken vows of poverty, or thought new was too good for you.
Now, that's changed. You're loved by a woman and her cat, you live in comfortable surroundings, and while possessions still aren't terribly important to you, you have everything you really need.
