Whispers

Rose clutched her fluffy jacket closer around her, not feeling its warmth. Her hair hung, lank, greasy and unkempt, just past her shoulders. The icy winter air stung her face, yet she continued to ignore it, walking down the empty streets. Her memories taunted her, echoing words, his words in her mind. His voice, so clear. She turned down another street and sat, rubbing her eyes free from tears. Then an oh-so-familiar voice spoke as a tissue was pressed in her hand. "Don't cry, Rose, I'm here" but the tissue was only air, and the voice a whispered memory.
