Pete looked at his partner. Myka. He watched her face, and all the doubt that she was left with when H.G. left, when she was betrayed. He looked at her now and saw the difference in her eyes from when he had first met her, what were once full of light and curiosity were now dull with her grief and sadness. Pete found himself longing to take her in his arms and hold her until all the pain went away. Pete watched her eyes go over their newest case and he wondered if she truly would ever get over this. She had left, left the warehouse, left Pete. Pete knew that it wasn't because of him but he couldn't help but take the effects personally. Everyone had left him before, everyone keeps leaving him why shouldn't Myka be any different. It's not like she could feel for him what he had felt from the moment he saw her. He loved her, with every fiber of his being he wanted to be with her, to protect her. Myka's face screwed up in sadness and Pete tried not to notice, it had happened a couple of times before and he had never done anything, best to leave her alone to face her demons than risk getting rejected when he cared for her this much. Myka sniffled and Pete had it, had enough with the pretending her didn't care.
Pete flipped his body to face Myka so suddenly that she dropped her file on the ground. Before he could change his mind he cupped her face in his hands and kissed her. She stiffened under his sudden embrace and pulled away half a second before she threw herself into the kiss with every ounce of passion she held. Pete wrapped his arms around Myka's back and held her so tight he thought he might leave bruises.
He and Myka stayed like that for what could have been minutes or hours. Days or months. They pulled away only when they had to breathe. "I love you" Pete whispered his lips only inches from her ear. "I love you" Myka repeated, and they finally pulled away.
"So who is going to tell Artie?" Pete said.
Artie slammed the front door behind him. "Tell me what?"
