She had no idea the signing would be this crowded, let alone that the band was so big. Yet again her information had been wrong. The teenagers surrounding her were singing and chattering relentlessly, their CD's clutched in their frozen hands. She tried to block out the noise and focus solely on the task ahead, but her mind was drifting, to dangerous places. It was the middle of May and unseasonably cold.

No one paid any attention to the beautiful, young girl, although now and then she did intercept one or two hopeful glances. She had bared her teeth and laughed quietly as they recoiled in horror. Unfortunately, for them, they always looked back too slowly to confirm their suspicions.

The last few people in front of her moved into the record store, their squeals of delight echoing out onto the streets. It was dark now and the stars lent on eerie glow to the scene.

Following the kids, she found her way blocked by a tall beefy security guard, soda can in one hand.

"Sorry, miss," he belched "no more, we are packing up now."

"Oh please, could you please just let me through, I've been waiting all day!" she breathed, turning the full force of her stunning face on him.

At her words the handsome man sitting in the centre of the signing table glanced up. His enchanting hazel eyes stared curiously at her, never leaving his eyes as he addressed the bodyguard.

"Ah, Worm it's fine, we have time for one more." He grinned, beckoning her forward.

She glided gracefully to the table and wordlessly handed over her CD. It was merely a prop; she had never listened to it and now never would. One of the song titles had held her attention and she smiled sadly at the remembered joke. It was now just a fond memory.

The band was laughing and teasing each other, as they passed the CD around, relaxing after the long signing session. The black haired singer, who still looked curious, grinned at the album cover before handing it back.

"Do you have any questions for us?"

She glanced quickly over her shoulder and he laughed quietly at her suddenly embarrassed expression, not realising it was just for show.

"Umm, well I was just wondering…uhh" she traced the album's third track carefully, "do you believe in vampires?" she blurted out.

The smaller guy giggles, possibly expecting yet another marriage proposal.

"Hell yeah!" three of them shouted and laughed simultaneously. But the other two still looked thoughtful.

"Not really." The man with the fro admitted sheepishly.

"Traitor!" the bassist squealed, punching the man's arm, but only succeeding in falling off his chair. The singer still looked thoughtful and slightly confused as he gazed into the girl's dark eyes, sensing there was more to the question, than just curiosity.

"Yeah…" he mumbled hesitantly. His band mates had left the table, too busy gathering up their stuff to notice the girl move close enough to whisper in the singer's ear.

"Would you like to be one?" was he imagining the urgency in her tone?

"I don't know…" his voice trembled and cracked.

She stood up quickly, much too quickly. He gasped as she grinned tightly at him, her small, sharp teeth glistening oddly in the bright fluorescent lights. Her eyes remained drawn, but emitted an almost magnetic charm.

She had strolled out the door into the night, before he could regain his breath, There had been a lot of darkness that night, he remembered, darkness and somewhere, hidden in the back of his memories, there was pain…
