The scene unfolding before her wasn't funny in the slightest, but for Rebecca Catalina it was, because it wasn't happening to her. She was visibly shaking and sweating trying to keep this onslaught of laughter from being unleashed. For the two months that she had been at the academy this was one of her hardest tests yet, and it wasn't even one she was being marked on. She looked on as the ever stoic, stone faced, soon to be perfect soldier Riza Hawkeye's locker, was absolutely torn apart in front of her.
Riza couldn't see the carnage unfolding behind her being stood to attention at the foot of her bed, but could very well see the state her best friend was in as she heard her locker being destroyed. Riza would of found the situation funny if her best friends suppressed laughter was not from her misfortune. She was staring daggers at her trying anything to stop her sudden laughter fit, yet it was doing nothing to settle her down.
If anything Riza's ice cold glare was only adding fuel to her fire that was about to burst into uncontrollable flames, in fact one last sock that landed unceremoniously between them was almost the end of the line for her, her eyes bulged from her head as she stared at the item of clothing and then back up to meet Riza's gaze. Behind her, their instructor turned her attention to Riza's bed, her brows furrowing in frustration, suddenly being very unhappy with the state of it. She snatched up her duvet, all the while screaming obscenities and began to launch it out the window. This, was Rebecca's final nail in her coffin.
She let a small snicker emit from her lips and instantly regretted it when Riza's eyes widened and their instructor span round to stare her down. In a few quick strides Rebecca was suddenly face to face with her.
"Something funny, Cadet Catalina?" Rebecca stole a quick glance at Riza who had understandably relaxed now that the pressure was off her. Feeling very small under their Master Sergeants hard gaze, Rebecca fought through her suddenly dry throat for a response.
"Uhh.. nothing sir. I'm just..just a happy person." Her stomached dropped, as their instructor stood straight and a sinister smile graced her face.
"Well, if you're such a happy person, you wouldn't mind treating the rest of your section to a happy song to raise morale then would you?"
"Excuse me sir." She'd heard it, she was hoping if she stalled enough, they'd get bored and drop it.
"You heard me, Cadet! Sing!" No such luck.
Rebecca had never felt more embarrassed as she stood to attention singing some song her mother had taught her from her childhood. Her gaze was sqaurely centered on Riza as she sang out each word and watched as her friend went through what she had just experienced but had it more under control, the only sign of her discomfort was a small twitch of her mouth as she watched her. At least her downfall was bringing the sections morale up, if anything in this awful place something bad happening to someone else was a small thing to take happiness in, sure it could be seen as wrong but you gotta take the small things otherwise you'd go crazy.
"Hawkeye! There's a reason Catalina is in this academy and not persuing a career in singing, her screeching is giving me a headache. She's your battle buddy take her with you to retrieve your bedding from outside. You've got two minutes, get there."
There was a combined 'yes sir' and a slight pause as they both shared an amused smirk at each other, silently agreeing that this was a race, before they sprinted for the door.
