Serenity

Beauty was something he had always taken pride in noticing, but being a male of the species, he rarely let that side of himself show.

But tonight, as he stood on the concrete balcony overlooking the drive in the crux of yet another harrowing assignment, he couldn't tear his eyes away.

Two stories below him and off to the right, in the midst of some of the most elegantly landscaped, flowing gardens, Kitt was parked. From his angle he couldn't see the glowing red scanner and he was glad of it. Instead the car was bathed in an ethereal white blue glow, causing the soft, black skin to appear a shimmering silver, the light gently lapping at the form it covered. The silence in the atmosphere was beyond peaceful and he felt contentment. The light highlighted the trees, the flowers, and the shadows created on the grass appeared dark blue in contrast to the surreal white light glowing in the night. There was no pollution, no glow from a nearby city, only muted stars appearing gold to the naked eye.

Michael took in a deep breath of the warm, humid air feeling it cling to his skin. His life was filled with dangers, with fear, with death; to ignore such beauty, such comfort and clarity was criminal to his mind. To think that others rushed through their lives, ignoring such sights as this caused a painful longing within himself. To know that the artificial intelligence he befriended could not only recognise, but cherish the simple pleasures life had to offer, allowed him to do the same more genuinely.

He ached to be a part of it, yet he was terrified of disturbing it if he moved from this spot.
