This has to be version 13 or 14 of this fic. I've done it more ways than I can count. I finally like it. FINALLY.

*****

Daisuke.

(A boy slept in a tower, in the middle of a magical hedge)

I'm dead, don't you see?

I died a long time ago. I died when my base fell from the sky. No, I died a long time before that. I died with Osamu, Daisuke. The boy you're looking at right now is a corpse. I don't feel, I act.

Daisuke.

(But one knight managed to work his way through. He stood at the door to the boy's chamber.)

I've been dead, dying, asleep, for years now. But I feel for you.

And you don't even know. Do you?

I'm still dead, but I watch you, Daisuke. I think I love you.

(Within, the boy lay in a crystal coffin. The knight lay his hand on the glass.)

Now I sit here, I lie in my grave, and I watch you. I look up and see you.

You don't know I'm dead, do you? Lying here in my coffin. You can see me. I can see you.

But we can't touch. We can never touch.

(He rest his cheek on the glass. It was cool and smooth. As he ran his hand, the glass fell away.)

Now you look down at me. You talk to me. How are you...you touch my hand. You call my name. I'm dead, Daisuke. Don't even try.

I think I'm crying, Daisuke. Let me rot alone. I want to be alone.

(He took the boy's hand.)

You take my hand.

Dammit, Daisuke. I don't want to wake up.

I like it here. Cold in my crystal coffin, asleep in my briar patch. I like being asleep.

(As he held the hand, he felt it warm.)

You run your thumb over the back of my hand.

I sigh. I manage to say, "Daisuke..." But I can't say the rest. I can't tell you to leave me alone.

(The knight fell to his knees and watched the boy.)

You smile at me, a smile like the sun. You brush back my hair.

I don't want to wake to this world, Daisuke. I don't want to wake to myself.

But, Gracious God, do I want to wake to you.

(The knight looked over the boy, trying to raise courage. As he watched, the boy's lips quirked.)

You run my hair through your fingers, run your fingers through my hair. I smile. I can't avoid it.

You're waking me, Daisuke. Stop it.

Please.

What am I asking?

Now your hand moves down my cheek. You trace the salty tracks of my tears. You touch my lips.

(The boy started back without thinking. He moved in his sleep, yawned slightly.)

You smile again. You slip that hand behind the back of my neck and pull me close.

My breath comes fast.

(The knight kissed the boy.)

You brush your lips over mine.

(Violet eyes shot open. The boy sat up.)

I wrap my arms around you.

(The boy wrapped his arms around the knight.)

You deepen the kiss.

I clutch you like I'm drowning.

(The knight breathed life into the boy's lungs as the hedge melted into mist)

Daisuke...

"Daisuke." I whisper.

You pull back and smile at me. "Ken. I love you."

(And it's over.)

"I love you, too, Daisuke."

(And they lived happily ever after.)

(The end)
