Watashi no Ototo-kun

A/N: Hey guys! Yeah, I'm still here. I'm almost ready to post my newest fic, Spirit Sojourn, so you don't have long to wait to hear from me. (Psh... like it's really at the top of your priority list, but hey, to each his own. ^_^) I was bored and somewhat inspired whilst I waited to get online tonight, so I wanted to write a little poem here and maybe strike up some inspiration in a certain someone who's working on a poem right now (but he'll be fine either way ^_~). Hope you guys enjoy this! Oh, before I forget... first, I don't own Digimon, all that stuff... just own the poem. This could be from any older sibling's point of view, but for my purposes, it's going to be from Kari's point of view in reference to Cody. See, like, they're not really related, but they're always around each other, so yep. Just work with me here, kay? This is for you, ototo-kun (you know who you are ^_^).

Standing by, watching you grow
Everyday you seem older than the last
I guess that's the reality of it all,
but then, somehow
You never seem any older than when we first met.

There's a blessed simplicity in us not being related
But being almost closer than most siblings are
You're the little brother I always wanted
But never had
Do you know how special you are to me?

When we were first introduced, I thought of you
As simply another person younger than me
Another who would possibly look up to me
What a responsibility...
To be the elder of a coming generation

As we grew closer and closer each day,
I saw things we had in common and things that were different
The more we talked, the more I looked forward
to your company
You seem to understand me the most

I enjoy sitting on the sidelines and watching, grinning,
Waiting with you for you to have that much needed growth spurt
I know that you'll act like you're mad when I say that
But we both know
Underneath the scorn is the same childish smile

I can only pray I'll be here till the end
So I can sit in the front for your wedding
So I can sit in the waiting room of the hospital
Waiting patiently
To see your first baby girl or baby boy

Remember, my brother, through all the good times and bad
That I'll never leave you or forsake you
Through the girls and the broken hearts and the changes
of adolescence
I'll be here to guide you with my experienced wisdom

Don't be afraid to ask me the questions
You can't bear to ask your mother or father
I know how it is, I've been there, nine times
out of ten
And I will help you get through it in any way I can.

My precious little brother, my ototo-kun
I hope you grow to be a fine man
With me here to help you, I can only hope that
My guidance
Will get you to that point in your life

Never fear, little brother, there's no such thing
With a big sister to protect you, especially when that's me
