(x)— Footnotes, which there are four of, have been inserted into this diary for a better understanding of the world of New Horizons City. They are at the end of this diary, akin to how a glossary would be at the end of an informal book.
Introduction: New Horizons City is a poverty-stricken, landlocked and poorly maintained planet ruled by the powerful Soister and His Fellow Staff. Under a totalitarian regime, no citizen is allowed to know how badly New Horizons City actually has fared compared to the rest of the universe. The "New" renovation has been in motion for the past decade, but has gone slowly due to the city's near bankruptcy. The citizens are force fed lies and positive remarks, to distract them from their grim reality. Any offence under the New Horizons City Regulations is punishable by death.
This diary starts from the first entry onward.

To introduce myself properly, my name is Dungy Mungy and I've lived in Horizons City for my entire life. In honor of my seventh birthday today, I was given this old, empty book. Mom calls it a diary, and found it while cleaning out our tennent. Dad was working at his office job for the city newspaper, so he wasn't able to join us. Finally, on this special day, we ate a few small slices left over from Blakester Day (3) and savored a nice dinner. Looking back on this memory, I enjoyed a great seventh birthday.

Mom let me start an education program. She says we can only do it for three hours a day, however, because it is costly. Thankfully, Dad returned home from work before I went to bed, but he will be for all intents living back at the office given a few days' time. I also met a friend on the street today, and his name is Tabby. He invited me to his tennant, to play games on his new H-CUBE (2). I've earned a nickname from him, in the form of the Gamer Mungy; merely because I've won against him at all of his video games.

Today, I attend another online education program. In particular, this one is not as fun or interesting as the first. Tabby came over to my house again, and joined my family for dinner. We discussed a lot at the table, while we could faintly hear some peculiar commotion in the street below, but paid no mind to it.

Happy New Year! Tonight I was able to stay up way past curfew (4), until 1:00 AM, to watch the New Years Fireworks in the city courtyard. We watched it with Tabby's family and shared a nice dinner. I've not said this as much as our leader Soister, but life is great here in New Horizons City. Goodnight, diary.

Mom told me to write about this, because she says I was pestering her for something to do. My H-CUBE is broken and we have been waiting on repairs for weeks, but have been occupied with education courses up until today. Anyway, on this day each year, we hold a festival to celebrate the protection and kindness of Blakester (3), the lead enforcer of the New Horizons City government. We must each give him a gift; many bring him a slice of an expensive treat, such as cake, sugar compact (1), or sometimes candy from the kids. My gift to him was a bracelet that I made as a young child in daycare.

I've just recently gotten my H-CUBE fixed, and amazingly enough there are multiple games already downloaded on it! I've been playing them, and to my mom's intrigue they consist of classic arcade game remakes reminscient from "when I (mom) was your age."

Today is the Day of Hearts. Since I don't have a date, I decided to write about today's traditions. At school we give a piece of candy to everyone else, and some share their candies with others. Soon, I'm leaving with Tabby and his friends, to visit an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. They say it'll be really fun; and that we won't get in trouble, thankfully. I've heard some strange stories about the Missing Citizens (5), people who got in trouble with Soister; and so I don't want to end up like them.

I've rediscovered this journal with the help of my best friend, Tabby. It's interesting to read through my older entries, as I remember the majority of what I wrote about. Seven years have passed, and I'm sixteen! Middle school was really tough — Tabby and I were bullied a bit, but those jerks vanished within weeks to my satisfaction. Some people are fleeing New Horizons City because they think it's unstable and that there are more superior places to live, yet Soister denies these petty notions. He's always right, no matter what, and we all agree.

Mom surprised me with a car! It is small and she deems it as "lightly used," even still, I enjoy it a lot. We drove around New Horizons City together, with me at the wheel. She says we can go out to dinner next week with Dad, which is a big treat for us. As usual she tells me that I am loved and wanted, and that I'm important to the world.

I haven't been able to write much lately, because work has been grueling. I am helping build a parking garage for the Horizons City revitalization project. Our leader, Soister, hopes to revive the city by building several public facilities and establishing a new set of laws. He promises the city will be larger, cleaner and wealthier than ever. The parking garage will serve the airport and tourism district. My Mom is stressed out because my Dad is in the hospital. She says I need to move out soon or get a better job, because she complains I am messy, always upset, and don't contribute enough for our family needs. I met a new friend on the construction site, and he likes to be called Xman. Xman is very kind and accepting, and we talk about a variety of topics whilst working. My paycheck comes in tomorrow, dear diary.

Happy new decade! We had to move out of our tennant, because there was a gasoline leak and explosion upstairs. Luckily our hero Blakester has come to the rescue, and saved many citizens. Mom is looking for a new home for us, so right now we are staying at Tabby's tennant with his family. She says that we might be able to move into a real apartment. That would be amazing! And something more exciting is that we might be able to visit some celebrities, even on their home planet! But Mom wants me to get promoted by the end of the month for that to happen.
October 31, 2040
Mom says that we can go visit the celebrities' home planet in a week. She is booking a time and plane at the airport for us to go. I CAN'T WAIT! Anyway, work has been a lot easier. I was able to secure an office job to replace that of my father's, as he retired and works from home now.

I met a big snake, and a human like me, who I thought were going to take me to the celebrities' home planet because they were at the airport. But they took me to Toontown instead, which was even better, especially when I got to meet the universe's ruler, Mickey! However, I incorrectly called Mickey a rabbit, and he put me in jail. MOM IS NOT HAPPY.

People, operating under the title of the Griefers of Griefertown (6), rescued me from jail. Their leader, Nova, wants me to help them merge the entire universe with the Palace planet. They took me there, and I loved my trip. Everyone at the Palace are so nice and welcoming. So I gladly agreed, to wield the great power Nova has bestowed upon me. But Nova tells me of his greatest enemy, whom is the snake I'd met before. It turns out that the snake is a wanted and evil fugitive who has narrowly escaped Nova's capture multiple times. Once Nova captures him, the Griefers plan to get rid of him and his friends for good. Signing off, Dungy Mungy.
UNORGANIZED FOOTNOTES FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE DIARY
(1)— "Sugar compact is a cubular treat that consists of sugar, processed starch and other artificial and/or natural sweeteners. Sugar compact comes in many varieties, including artificially/naturally made, fruit flavors (Apple, Orange, Banana, Grape, Pear, Watermelon…), vegetable flavors, and options for the dietarily restricted. It is notorious for being a very cheap alternative to other desserts and is fairly easy to produce. It's primary producer is Schweetz Sales, located on planet Megarcade." Quoted in 2041 from the Tooniverse Cookbook Dictionary.
(2)— "An H-Cube is a popular gaming and broadcasting console on the Horizons City planet. Created by the eccentric electronic guru Parzival, it was made on special demand by Soister to provide a cheap home entertainment system to the city's citizens. This small yet versatile device comes in many colors, the default being black, and uses a built-in projector to broadcast live or on demand television onto flat surfaces. It gained notorious popularity during the mid-2020s, because of the numerous video games that were released exclusively for the platform." Quoted in 2041 from the Unofficial History Of New Horizons City.
(3)— "Annual Celebration of Blakester Day is a cultural celebration of New Horizons City. It is to honor their head of security and law enforcement, Blakester. In the morning, each citizen, regardless of age, must give something to Blake to show their appreciation. A popular gift is a small portion of a sweet treat, or a relished family heirloom. Many local band performances, sporting games and theatre plays are held throughout the entire day." Quoted in 2041 from the Unofficial History Of New Horizons City.
(4)— "New Horizons City has a curfew of approximately 8:30 PM EST. All citizens, minus the government, must be inside their houses by this time. Any citizen that is caught outside will receive an offense under their name…" Quoted in 2041 from the New Horizons City Rules & Regulations Guidebook.
(5)— "The Missing Citizens are a title given to citizens who were 'erased' from history by Soister And His Fellow Staff. A hot rumor was (at the time), that they had violated the terms of the New Horizons City Rules & Regulations Guidebook; in the end racking up multiple city offenses. However, no one exactly knew how or why they had 'vanished' until the fractions of evidence and theories were connected." — Quoted from Tabby, a longtime friend of Dungy Mungy's
(6)— "The Griefers of Griefertown are a massive, universally feared gang, now ruled by Nova born on the now-collapsed planet of Great Havilland. The Griefers were formerly ruled and founded by Sillyman, however Sillyman has yet to reveal the reason of abandoning his role. They specialize in arranging fighting groups fort their allies, and stealing valuable artifacts to run back to Griefertown (their home base) and eventually sell on the black market. Recently, Nova has ordered attack forces on his nemesis, the snake named Kw6, but is yet to be successful with this strategy…" Quoted in 2041 from The Soldier's Dictionary.
