On a bright Thursday morning, something unexpected was revealed.
Konoha High was celebrating its foundation day. There was a band contest, which some students found boring. Examples are Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha.
Sakura was Sasuke's best friend. Sasuke was Sakura's best friend. They were talking in a quiet corner in the school campus, which was hard to find, since the music was too loud.
"Sakura, who do you like?"
"No one." Sakura turned away, edging away from him, blushing.
"Sakura, what year is he in? And why are you moving way from me?"
'Oh, no. Sticky situation..what do I do?' Sakura thought frantically. 'Might as well answer him. Oh well.'
"Fine, the guy's the same year level as we are, and he's in Shikotsumyaku. What about yours?" Sakura countered.
"The one I like? Well, she's in Hikyakuya."
'He likes someone in my section! I hope it's me..' Sakura thought.
'Who could that be? Maybe it's me..I wish.' Sasuke mused.
"I want a deal; ask me a question, I'll answer. When I answer, I'll ask the question back to you. Deal?"
"Fine, deal. Give me a hint."
"Um..he's weird."
"Weird, huh?" Sasuke smirked.
"Yeah. You?"
"She has a very happy disposition."
"Another hint."
"He doesn't wear glasses."
"She has a car." 'Lame, Uchiha!' Sasuke mentally slapped himself.
'What? What kind of a hint is that? Well, whatever.' Sakura shrugged.
While they were talking, several Shikotsumyaku and Hikyakuya students were passing by, and they happened to glance at the 'couple'. They threw reassuring and knowing glances at them. They whispered murmured as they walked.
'They look so cute together!'
'Sasuke-teme's finally cracked his façade. He likes Sakura-chan. I was right!'Naruto cheered.
After a few seconds of musing, thinking and replaying words in their heads, Sasuke broke the silence.
"Where is she?"
"She's just here, close to me."
"Me?"
"No. Kidding!"
Sakura pouted at him.
'I can't take this anymore! Kami-sama!' Sasuke was having a battle with his conscience, and he was losing.
"Sakura, what letter does his name start with?"
"First letter in first name is S."
'S. Who could it possibly be? Almost all of the boys' names in my section start with S!'
"Oi, Sasuke-kun, aren't you forgetting something?" Sasuke snapped out of his stupor.
"What?"
"What's the first letter in her first name?"
"…I can't tell. She has the only name that starts with 'the' letter."
"No fair! Only one, let's see. Karin, Karui, Ayame, Aya, Midori, Mizumi, Mizuki, Sakura. Sakura."
"…"
"Sakura. Oh. Oh. I get it now."
Sasuke blushed crimson. "Say it."
"No. Later, when you get it."
"Okay. What about yours? Give me another hint."
"He has six letters in his name."
"O-kay. Let me think."
'Sandayu, Sakumo, Sasuke. Letter S, six letters.'
"Sandayu or Sakumo?"
"Not Sandayu, he has glasses. And never Sakumo, he's too ugly."
"So that leaves me."
Sakura shot him an 'are-you-really-that-thick?' look.
"Me….Now I get it."
"Is it okay?" Sakura asked nervously.
"Yeah. You?"
"It's perfectly fine."
"I suppose we have to say it."
"Okay. On the count of three."
One,
Two,
Three.
"You." They said simultaneously.
After their 'confession', there was an awkward silence. Just then, Kakashi walked by them.
"Sasuke, Sakura, you're not supposed to stay there. Go back to your line."
They shrugged. They had to obey.
In the line formation, Shikotsumyaku and Hikyakuya were beside each other. Sakura sat down at the back; Sasuke did the same so they were beside each other.
Silence hung in the air.
"It's weird, isn't it, Sasuke-kun?"
He agreed.
