Chapter 1

The Impossible

This is a story about a young adult who is very interested in the sciences and the theory of the multiverse, this is a story about Aaron and his friend as they go on a life changing adventure to another Earth.

The sun was pounding on Aarons back as it was summer and he was walking from his last day of high school ever, as he was now a high school graduate. Although he is intelligent he couldn't wait but leave that school and just do what he wants. He had been waiting for this day since before the school year even started.

"Finally it's summer break," Aaron said, to himself as he was halfway to home. "I can't wait to get home and just start playing games and watching tv." Aaron wasn't the kind of person to go and socialize and go to parties all night, although he does have friends they're the only ones he would hang out with the most, almost every day and no-one else really.

As Aaron approached his house he took notice that his families car was not home and he thought to himself they must have left for their trip they had been planning but Aaron didn't want to go on since it was summer break and all he wanted to do was relax and finish the inventions that him and his friend Brian had been working on, as he entered his house he placed his stuff on the floor and saw a note on the table the note read, "son we have left for the week, you said you didn't want to come with us on this trip so we are leaving the house to you don't forget to lock the doors whenever you leave and to turn off all the lights when you go to bed and also don't stay up too late, love you, mom," Relieved of not having to go to school for at least 2 months and having the house to himself, he fell asleep on his couch instead of playing games and watching tv.

Aaron was in a deep sleep, the dream he was having seemed strange to Aaron but he couldn't help but wonder what it meant. There was a person in his dream, a voice that kept on saying, "soon the gateway shall open and you shall find peace."

"Knock, Knock, Knock!" Aaron jumped out of the couch as there were three explosive knocks at the front door, he wondered who it could be since his parents weren't home and out of town. Aaron went to go and answer the door he looked through the window next to the door and realized who it was, it was his friend from school, or high school since he's now a graduate.

Aaron answered the door. "What's up Brian I was just asleep come on in."

"I noticed that your family's car is gone, why is that?" Brian asked.

"Well my parents are out of town and they left me because I didn't want to go."

"Why didn't you want to go?"

Aaron knew Brian would come a sometime during this week, but not today although he came earlier than expected Aaron had his answer."Well because it's summer break and what would I do over there with them, secondly, we have that machine were working on, if I wasn't here months of research will come to an abrupt halt for about a week we know that just isn't acceptable."

"Yeah I know but everything in moderation it's still a prototype you can't just rush the creation of something on the scale of what we're doing, it could be bad if we were to miscalculate and have your house explode or-or cause some top men to appear at our front door step we have to take moderation or suffer annihilation"

"I guess your right," Aaron said leading him down to the attic so that I could go run diagnostics on the prototype.

As they entered the attic Aaron looked the beautiful machine,Its design looked a lot like the gateway arch in St. Louis but had more bumpy and rough, wondering if he could finally get it to work but what Brian didn't know Aaron was planning on doing more than diagnostics but was attempting the impossible.

"So you said you're just gonna run diagnostics and nothing else right?" Brian said in a semi-worried voice.

"Yes yes I'm just going to run a few test and we're done. Do you wanna help?"

"Actually, yes I do just so we can get this over with and done for."

"Ok turn on the power generator. Start at low power while slowly going up this time I have an idea"

"But we've always done this on low. Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Brian said, with worry in his voice.

"Yes, I'm sure, with all this school stuff out of the way I have found a way to run diagnostics more efficiently. Now I'm gonna count down from three as soon as I say go pull the lever and then increase the power slowly." Aaron said, trying to hide his happiness as he believes he found out the algorithm to make the gateway work. He was keeping it from Brian as he believed he would back out thinking the house would explode and not help him because Aaron needed him for the steady power increase.

"Ok got it I'm ready when you are" Brian said, sweating from worry.

"Ok"

"3...2...1..."

"GO." Aaron shouted.

The Generator fired up like a jet engine and as Brian started to increase the power their was a light coming from the arch and Brian started to feel his doubts fall from his shoulders as he thought this machine wouldn't work in years or at all. Aaron was just typing and typing algorithms and codes as he found out what to do to activate the Arch, he was doing it his machine was working. Brian was between medium power and high power and then the Arch's light started to dissipate Aaron saw this and typed faster then he ever has, the light was coming back and Brian was done the power was full and stable and the Arch was functional and Aaron felt like crying and his research was done for now.

"It Actually worked I'm starting to think we didn't come down here for just diagnostics did we," Brian said, as they stared into the abyss that was the Arch just staring.

"No, we didn't I knew this was going to work I just knew it was, I feel like testing it now." Aaron walked towards the machine and Brian grabbed his shirt and yanked him.

"What was that for you choked me a little." Aaron said, with a little anger in his voice.

"We don't know yet if organic molecules can even pass through without getting ripped apart idiot, you could have died and to think I revered you as a god a few moments ago. We need to run test but not on us. Yet." Brian said, with a little worry in his voice and also a little hope.

"So what we run test like on rats." Aaron asked.

"No, I was thinking bugs like roaches and then if they survive we send in rats and also cameras we send in cameras." Brian said, thinking of that brilliant and foolproof idea on the spot.

"Wow, so we send in roaches and rats to be the first into a parallel universe that's really honoring." Aaron said, disappointed he wouldn't be going in first.

"Well a dog was the first living being from earth to go into space so I'm sure its all good" Brian said, trying to cheer him up

"Fine. So where do we find rats and roaches?" Aaron said, looking around.

"Well we are in a basement I'm pretty sure some of them have already made a nest down here"

"Ok well look around" Aaron said, eagerly as he just wanted to experience the machine for himself already

After a few hours of looking around they finally found rats and roaches which they tested and it was verified to be safe it was like the test subjects didn't even know they were being tested on. They were about to test there HD camera when Brian asked something mysterious about the Gateway.

"Why is it that the Gateway or Arch or whatever is still running stable shouldn't it run out of power?" Brian said, confused by this.

The question had Aaron thinking and looking for an answer.

"I have no idea but if I were to take a guess, brace yourself for this answer it's rather chilling, it's that someone or something might be holding it open with the right supply of energy." Aaron said sounding a little disturbed.

After the little pause they took the HD camera and a skateboard and taped the camera onto it.

"Are you ready for what we're about to see?"

"Yeah the computer monitor is ready to start streaming and recording."

"Ok good but I also meant mentally. Are you ready to see if there is any aliens or some creatures on the other side of this portal? Will they see us as a threat and attack or welcome with open arms or.." Brian said, being cut off by Aaron.

"Just stop ok I'm ready.. I think.. well lets just do this these "aliens" can probably share knowledge that's kinda the reason why I built this machine and to explore new plane of reality. We have to do this."

"Alright then I've tied the rope and secured the camera tell me when to go and I'll start streaming to the computer" Brian said, a little scared

"I'm ready" Aaron said, with a confident voice

As the camera rolled into the portal Aaron and Brian were nervous. They both were expecting to see some alien grab there camera at take it for testing but what they saw made Aaron even more nervous and excited at the same time. "That's impossible" Aaron whispered to himself as he observed what just couldn't be.
