Tell me, have you ever wanted someone so much it hurts?
Your lips keep trying to speak, but you just can't find the words.
I had this dream once.
I held it in my hands.
Derek began to notice a change in he and Emily's friendship. Everyday it seemed they were becoming closer and closer. Soon, he began to realize he was seeing her as way more than a friend or partner.
He wanted to speak to her, see if she could see they were getting close, too. It seemed that everytime he was about to speak to her about it, they were interrupted by a case or the team.
She was the purest beauty, but not the common kind.
She had a way about her that made you feel alive.
And for a moment, you made the world stand still.
We owned the night.
Derek always saw Emily as a strong woman. She was always there to help him whenever he was upset after a case, even though she might have been, too. She could make him laugh and lift his spirits at these times.
There was just something different about her from all of the other women he'd met.
You had me dim the lights.
You danced just like a child.
The wine spilled on your dress and all you did was smile.
It was perfect.
I hold it in my mind.
We owned the night.
One day, Derek finally got up the nerve and asked her out. She came over to his house. He had cooked dinner and she thought it was perfect.
It shocked him when she put on music and asked him to dim the lights. They danced, right there, in his living room. It was perfect. After the song, Derek leaned down and kissed her. He knew this would change everything, but he was ready to take the risk. She admitted to him that it was the best kiss she's ever had.
While they were eating, Emily accidently spilled wine on her dress, but she didn't freak out. She laughed and smiled at Derek. Her laughter was contagious because soon Derek was laughing as well.
When the summer rolls around and the sun starts sinking down,
I still remember you.
And I wonder where you are.
Are you looking at those same stars again?
Derek couldn't believe that was two months ago and now everything has changed. He saw them spending the rest of their lives together. But, now, she was gone.
Do you remember when?
We woke under a blanket, all tangled up in skin.
Not knowing in that moment,
We'd never speak again.
A month after dating, it was becoming a routine for Emily to be at Derek's house between cases. Derek couldn't help but smile when he woke up one morning after a date and realized Emily was still there, sleeping next to him.
Now, he never thought that would be the last time he'd see her happy. Then, Doyle happened. Emily was gone. Doyle had won and now he fled. Derek was trying so hard to keep it together and do everything he could to find Doyle.
He knew it wouldn't help the pain he was feeling, but it would feel so good to take Doyle's life, just like he'd taken Emily's.
But it was perfect.
I never will forget when we owned the night.
