No Turning Back

Shoot. Shoot. Shoot! I can't believe I'm doing this. My father and his friends are out in the woods hunting giant wolves and I'm in the woods hunting for my best friend, one of the aforementioned wolves, to warn him about the hunters. Shoot. Ohgod, what if they do shoot him?

"Jacob! Jacob I need to talk to you!" Where is he? Even if he can hear me, will he be able to understand me? "Jacob! I need you!"

"Did you hear that, Charlie?" Oh. My. God. The hunters! And even worse, my father!

"Yeah. A sort of howling noise. I think it came from that direction." I can hear the hunters loudly making their way towards me. I can't run away, my clumsiness would let them know exactly where to shoot. I start running anyway. At least if I get shot I don't have to explain to Charlie why I am in the middle of a forest filled with hunters and giant wolves.

The hunters and I are crashing though the woods with absolutely no grace when something makes us stop dead in our tracks. A real howl comes from a clearing to my left. I recover before the hunters and run towards the sound. I pause behind some bushes.

"Jacob?" I whisper so the hunters don't hear me. "Is that you, Jake?" I stick my head through the shrubs. The gigantic russet wolf is growling at something beyond the clearing. "Jacob! We need to leave now!"

"I think it came from over this way. Charlie, hand me another round." Shoot! I hear the click of my father's gun and apparently so does Jake. He turns around and starts making his way towards the men. I take a deep breath and run into the clearing. Dad, don't kill me. Jake, don't kill dad. Dad, don't kill Jake. Jake, don't kill me. The mantra runs through my head as I dive between a gigantic wolf and a group of hunters.

"What the hll?!?" I hear the guns drop as I enter into their line of sight. I dive down in front of the wolf and search for some sign of my Jacob behind the animal's eyes and beg.

"Come on, that's Charlie. Come on, lets go. Please? Let's just go." His eyes search mine and he snorts. I climb onto his back and we race though the forest and I finally understand how fast werewolves really are.

"BELLA!!" My dad's voice echoes in my ears as tears stream down my face. I know it was probably just another hallucination but I swear Edward yelled my name with Charlie as I was leaving on Jake's back.

Sobbing, I tuck my head into his fur and recite the note that I left on the kitchen counter for my father over and over again. The empty hole that I think of as my heart rips in half again with the knowledge that no amount of apologies will ever be enough to heal the damage that I have done to him by leaving.

I really can't go home after this.
