The Thought That Hurts
Jen K pushed her key into the lock of her dorm room and pushed the door open. She was automatically greeted with the smell of her favorite perfume, the one Rusty always loved, as she walked into the room. Jen K pulled off the thick and baggy jacket off of herself and tossed it on the ground. Normally she would've nicely set it on her hook next to her bed, but she was too upset to do anything clearly or normally. The look on Rusty's face was permentally seared into Jen K's mind. The look etched into his eyes wasn't anything that she ever wanted to see again, and she was mad at herself that it was herself who put the look in his eyes.
Jen K tossed her keys onto her desk and let out a sigh, she was alone in her room for the very first time since she started to her new life at Cyprus Rose. The roommate she had barely even spoken to in the semester officially hated her, and that left Jen K worried about everyone else in her life. It was pretty safe to say that no one else would forgive her, especially the soriety or Rusty. She had messed up in the worst way that anyone could mess up. Jen K knew that she had let them down and made them hate her.
Jen K plopped down on her bed and picked up the article that was still laying on her bed from the first time she picked it up off the stand. The second she had first placed the paper in her hands it was the first time that she was truly happy. Her dreams were finally coming true, but just as quick as they came, they were gone. She was about to have a national spread, but she felt nothing about it. None of it meant anything if she didn't have her friends, or Rusty.
Jen K stretched out on her bed and wished that she could just go to Rusty and have him hug her and tell her that he loves her. Jen K's gaze fell on the picture of her and Rusty on the table next to her bed. Rusty had his arms around Jen K as they fell back on Rusty's bed. Jen K smiled as she thought back to the day and was glade that they had it, if they hadn't then Jen K wouldn't have walked away from their relationship with anything.
Jen K felt tears spring to her eyes and she tried to push the thoughts of Rusty away, even though it was hard. Rusty had been the first guy she had ever really loved and she missed him even though she had just walked away from him. But she knew that Rusty would never forgive her for what she did. And that was the part that upset Jen K the most.
