Summary: A conversation between Chrom and Robin before the final battle. Chrom x Robin
"Listen, Robin, you don't have to sacrifice yourself for the world. There is always another alternative."
"Yes, there is always another alternative," Robin repeated. "The other alternative might end up as a failure and the world would be doomed. Haven't you thought of that, Chrom? Sacrificing me would make it so much easier and the only casualty would be Grima and I."
"It won't end up as a failure. I won't let it."
"Even if it didn't, Grima would only be asleep. He'll wake up at another time period and haunt our descendants. Do you really want that, Chrom?"
"They'll be able to take him on."
"You're just being selfish now, Chrom. If I wasn't your wife, if I wasn't your ally, if we didn't have a bond, if I belonged to enemy's side, would you care so much if I lived or not?"
"Don't speak of 'what if's'. The point is that we do have a bond, and I care."
"I know you do."
"Then promise me that you won't do anything rash."
Without a pause or moment of hesitation, Robin conceded, "I promise."
Chrom looked at her suspiciously, but he answered approvingly anyway, "Good. I'm glad that you understand." No more words were said and he left.
Robin watched Chrom's retreating back as he went to speak with Frederick.
I promise.
Those two words sounded hollow even to Robin's ears. It was the first time that she ever lied to Chrom. She was always honest to him, no matter what. But this time was different. From what she could remember from the new memories she made with Chrom and everyone else, she never broke promises either. But this way, she would be protecting everyone.
She heard a slight rustle behind her and she turned. It was Lucina and Morgan, obvious worry in their eyes. They might have overheard her conversation with Chrom.
Robin smiled at them, and they nervously smiled back.
To break the silence between them, Robin asked if they wanted to eat dinner together. Lucina and Morgan happily agreed and the the family trio went to get a bite to eat. As they were walking, Robin closed her eyes, and then opened them to peer up at the sky. Stars glittered against the dark vast night and she couldn't look away. After all, it might be her last night. She chatted about trivial things with her children, anything that didn't relate to the battle tomorrow.
As Robin talked with Lucina and Morgan, she came to a final decision. She wouldn't let her friends or family die because of her.
It was for the best.
A/N: Just something I thought of randomly. Sorry if it sucks.
