Prologue
There is a legend told in the distant Heiwa Region; a legend of crystal tears and frozen starlight, a legend of shadowed moonlight and cursed creatures.
They say Kage, the shadowed creature, was made by ancient humans as the ultimate pokémon. A creature so mismatched and tortured that none remembered her true form.
And yet the golden dragon Heiwa, a being of pure light, welcomed her to his ancient island and set her to safeguard the ancient orbs of moon and star.
In the center of the Starlit Forest the two pedestals sat, always undisturbed by human and pokémon alike until the darkest night approached. Rain threatened overhead as Kage slipped up to the moon pedestal and snatched the orb that rested atop it.
The orb flashed with a dark energy as she slunk back into the shadows but her eyes grew wide when Heiwa himself alighted atop the other pedestal, the star orb gripped tight in his claws as he glared at her.
No one knows exactly what was said or what happened next but the moon orb merged with Kage, leaving a single elemental necklace, and the star orb was smashed into shards that scattered across the region.
Kage was banished from the island as large sections of land sank into the sea, leaving impassable boiling waters to protect the ancient forest as the crescent islands of Heiwa-Ryuu were created.
It is said Heiwa himself remained in the forest, protecting another even darker secret beneath the mirage mountain.
Melanie Starshine, an archeologist and researcher, leaned against the rock wall of the Balance Ruins as she rubbed sweat from her face.
The wall before her was covered in ancient symbols and images, the most interesting and largest being a depiction of an origieon. Beneath the pokémon was a strange token shaped like an infinity sign, a balance token according to the fading text.
"Well Champ?"
Melanie glanced sideways at her assistant and sighed, "I can't make out much of it but this dragon here must be Heiwa…"
She laid her hand on an image beside the eeveelution as she moved closer to the carvings, her fingers tracing over the ancient unown script, "What I can make out reads…'the islands of Heiwa-Ryuu exist in harmony because the elements remain in balance. The natural elements…' followed by something about ancient orbs and a shadow."
"Origieon is said to represent the natural elements with each of its three tails but what does the rest mean?" her assistant ducked his head under the low ceiling as he scanned the carvings again.
"Perhaps the other ruins will offer more answers…" she dusted her hands on her pants as she straightened and followed his gaze around the cave once more before making her way outside, "Heiwa's history bears many scars."
"I would imagine all regions do…" the assistant murmured as he followed her out, rubbing one hand along an origieon statue guarding the ruins as the ground suddenly shook with a massive quake.
The two researchers turned towards the distant boiling sea as rays of light shot across the night sky in all directions. Two distant shapes disappeared into the steam mists that hovered over the sea, heading towards the source of the lights.
When Melanie could find words again she shook her head and tightened her grip on the balance token that had led her to search for Heiwa's history, "I have a bad feeling something just broke that balance."
