The winter wind bites my skin through the heavy wolf fur coat given to me by a customer that was wrapped tight around me as my feet sink into the snow covered ground as I walk to my cabin deep in the Canadian woods when a weak whimper reaches my ears from my left causing me to halt. It's not the first time I heard that sound, usually I was the cause of that sound, but it sounded human and despite my instincts to ignore it, I made my way in that direction.

I followed the scent of two boys, weaving through the trees. What were two boys' doing in the middle of the woods mid winter? The scent grew stronger until I met a small clearing where I stood in the middle and looked around. Where are they? They can't just go poof! and disappear?

I heard a small creak in the tree that hung over me and barely had time to catch myself from falling when a body jumps out of the branches, his clawed hands wrapping around my neck. The boy on top of me barely looked fourteen and was dirty. His cheeks were hollow and his clothes were in shambles.

"Hello." I greet slowly, raising my hands in a submissive gesture, and he snarls a bit showing his extended canines. "Victor..." A weak voice catches my attention and an even smaller clumsily lands at the foot of the tree. "Quiet, Jimmy." The older orders and the one named Jimmy follows the order but slowly made his way to us.

"Victor... I'm not gonna hurt you." I say as slowly and as calmly as possible, not staring the boy in the eyes as a sign of respect and submission. "Are you a mutant too?" Jimmy asks right behind Victor. "Jimmy!" The older scolds the little one. I nod slowly at his question, smiling to show my extended canines and wiggle my fingers to start the process of my nails extending as well.

Victor growls at me and presses down a bit on my windpipe. "Victor, I can help you take care of Jimmy. I have a cabin not far from here and plenty away from humans." I watch Jimmy smile. "Can we Victor?" He asks and I smile. "We have to stick together Victor. The bigger the number the longer we survive." I coax and after much thought, Victor let's me go.

Jimmy helps me up, much to Victor's displeasure, and holds my hand, eager for a home. "Victor, you don't have to stay forever. Just until the weather becomes easy to travel, then you can leave." I try again, and Logan ends up pouting. "Please~ Victor~" He whines, and my heart instantly melts.
