Alice, an Altaria, flew into a window leading to her room. Perched at the top of the castle's east wing, she looked out over the kingdom as the sky darkened. She could no longer see the sun as it was setting on the other side. Getting settled in her nest of pillows, silk and cotton she looked out as the moon rose high in the sky.
In the distance an armor clad Altaria flew closer. Upon entering the room he sat beside Alice, placing his armor in a nearby wicker basket. He looked around the room, pictures of the two scattered about. Smiling he turned to her. "Alice, my love, how are you?"
Blushing happily in their nest she gave him a chaste kiss. "I am well Daniel, what about you? You're home late." A thought crossed her mind making her worry. "You're not hurt are you?" She began to look him over urgently.
Nervous and flustered he brought up his wings. "N-no Darling! Not at all!" With a sigh of relief at her calming down, he cleared his throat. Shifting uncomfortably he showed her a small egg, white with red and blue shapes all over it. "I found it at the edge of the forest. It almost went into the river. I tried to find the parents, but..." Daniel closed his eyes, feeling remorse for the poor egg.
Alice gasped, covering her beak. "It wasn't them was it?"She looked at him in horror, awaiting an answer.
"I don't know. I also can't think of anyone else who would do such a vulgar thing." Daniel shook the thought from his mind, bringing his attention back to the egg. "I couldn't just leave it there. I think it still has a chance. What do you think, should we-"
"Of course!" Taking the delicate egg from her beloved she brought it over to a bassinet with heated blankets. She placed it down with three other eggs. She looked at them all, joy in her heart. "It doesn't matter if I didn't have the egg. This little one needs a home and I wanted more young ones anyway." She nuzzled Daniel as he came over to look at them with her.
Just the start of something much bigger. What are your thoughts? Want more?
