"What if I don't?" Edith crossed her arms and glared up from under her pink hat. Actually, she could hardly see Mr. Megamind at all from this angle; his gigantic blue head was way up above her, and she could only see him through a haze of pink cotton fuzz. But he could see her, which was what mattered, so she put all the defiance and sulkiness into her pose that she could.
"Then I'll lock you up in the cold, dark cellar," Megamind answered with an evil grin. "With the rats and the... speeyiders." He waved his long blue fingers in front of the little girl's face. Much to his disappointment, she seemed completely unimpressed.
Dad's evil grin is eviler, Edith thought. Out loud, she said, "What if I don't mind being locked up in your old cellar?"
Megamind frowned and scratched his head. Finally, he said, "Then… I'll hand you over to the brainbots and let them torture you." He summoned one with a snap of his fingers and began petting it sinisterly.
"What if I'm not scared of your old brainbots?" Edith gave a karate kick to Megamind's shin, sending him howling and clutching his leg. The brainbot went flying across the room and righted itself with several disgruntled beeps.
"Edith," Gru called from across the evil lair, "be nice to Mr. Megamind."
"I will if he be's nice to me," Edith growled back.
Megamind shot a furtive look over at Edith's dad, but Gru had gone back to looking over his instruments of evil. "Then I'll zap you with my dehydration gun."
"What if I stole your dehydration gun and hid it?"
Megamind clapped a hand to his side. The gun was not in its holster. "You—you little—" he spluttered furiously. Edith just looked blankly up at him.
Megamind put a hand to his giant head, cast another anxious look at Gru, and hissed, "If you don't get this for me, I'll never let you play with any of my instruments of evil again."
The little girl's glare seemed to last for a year. "Fine," she said at last. She turned on her heel and stalked away.
Megamind opened the door, and the interior of a car appeared in midair. Roxanne smiled at him and climbed in. He firmly shut the door behind her and got in on the driver's side, more than ready to get away from the overexcited well-wishers. People waved as they drove away, though to Roxie's amusement, they didn't seem to know when to stop waving, since the car that bore the newlyweds away was invisible.
At last.
"One last wedding gift, my love," Megamind said, pulling a small wrapped box from his pocket.
Roxie took it. "Really? What is it?" She held the box up by her ear and shook it, ruffling her pixie-cut hair adorably. Megamind laughed. She would never guess.
"Open it," he said eagerly.
Roxie tore off the paper and lifted the lid. "Lipstick?" She sounded disappointed, as he had known she would. He smiled.
"Not just any lipstick, my love—Aaaaah!"
Roxie grabbed the wheel just in time to keep them from going off the road. She grinned down at her unconscious husband. "Awesome! Lipstick Taser!"
