Broken Heart

A Jace one-shot

Jace P.O.V

Jace looked into the shattered peace of portal- the last of a thousand times. He sighed- he didn't do that much- and thought about Clary. Again. The past few days, she had been avoiding him. No calls, or texts, or anything.

Maybe she hates me, Jace thought despairingly. That would be understandable. No. When did he become a sissy? Become… weak? When Jace found that Clary was his sister it was like God himself was saying "Did you think you could be happy for this long? That I would let you have whatever happiness that you could find?" Yes, he had.

Falling in love with hi sister, Jace thought with disgust, was the perfect way to throw happiness in his face. And now, instead of Jace kissing Clary, Jace holding her, it was Simon. Simon! Him kissing and holding and touching and comforting her whenever she was sad- and she would let him. I laughed humorlessly. Why would she choose me anyway? I could have any girl I wanted, and the one girl that I do want; that I'm not going to throw away after one night, turns out to be my sister. I squeezed the shattered portal into my hand so it would bleed.

Clary had looked tortured when Valentine told us the "happy, joyful" news. Shit! Blood was now streaming down my palm and onto the bed sheet, the portal digging into my palm. That was what he got for hurting Clary.

I should've killed Valentine when I had the chance. Then Clary and I could've gotten married and skipped off into the sunset like the cliché movie always ended. We could've left it all behind: the truth, demons, and the shadowhunter world. I would do that for her, if she really wanted to. Like her mom. Alec and I had guessed long before Clary had, that Jocelyn had decided to take her to Magnus and twist her memory. I saw Jocelyn's (I still refused to call her my mother) point, that she wanted to protect Clary. But I saw Clary's point- and why would you tamper with your child's mind?

*Beep* My phone beeped. A text message. Clary… but I couldn't hope.

Jace. Get over here, and bring Luke.

It was Clary.
