Just a short one-sjot about Rose's sorting

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. Anything you recognize is not mine. I own only the plot and certain characters.

Rose

I stood nervously with the rest of the first years as the sorting began. I was too nervous to pay attention at first but when it was Albus' turn I watched him place the overly large hat on his head. A few minutes passed and Al seemed to be waging some internal battle with the hat. I let my attention wander for a moment as the hat didn't seem close to a decision. My thoughts were jerked back to the present at the hats yell. Slytherin? Had I heard that right?

I watched as he walked slowly towards the Slytherin table, avoiding the gases of our many angry looking cousins. He glanced back at me and I offered him a small smile. Al was my favorite cousin and best friend. It didn't matter to me if he was in Slytherin or not.

The sorting continued, but I found myself watching Albus instead. He looked rather scared as he sat down next to another first year. I recognized the white-blond hair and grey eyes of Scorpius Malfoy, the very boy my father had warned me about. He gave Al a small smile and I decided maybe Scorpius wasn't all bad.

My head snapped up as my name was called. This was it. I was the last to be sorted and most people had started small conversations amongst themselves. Everyone expected me to be in Gryffindor so what was the point of watching my sorting? I placed the worn out hat on my head and waited for its verdict.

Well, Well another Weasly I see. You guys breed like rabbits.

I mentally laughed. Tell me about it! I almost have too many cousins to count!

And you're not unlike them in many ways. Yes, you would do well in Gryffindor like the rest of them. You have quite a lot of courage.

Yeah well, I'm a Weasly what else is there to expect.

A lot. Yes, you would do well in Gryffindor but that does not mean its best for you.

The hat had captured my attention. Gryffindor wasn't best for me. Well, then what was? So where are you going to put me I asked the hat.

That is a good question Miss Weasly. You have your mother's brains. You would do fine in Ravenclaw, but that's not just right for you either.

So what that leaves Hufflepuff and Slytherin? I certainly don't want to be in Hufflepuff but I don't really want to be in Slytherin either. But then Al would be with me so it wouldn't be too bad.

Not Hufflepuff huh? Well good. You wouldn't fit in there. Slytherin, I think, is the best place for you. You are quite cunning and a bit tired of living in your family's shadow. Yes I think it better be…

"Slytherin!"

The entire great hall looked up at the sorting at the sorting hat's words. I felt a bit self-conscious as I walked to my new table and joined Al. I avoided looking towards the Gryffindor table where me now incredibly angry cousins sat. James was practically yelling at the sorting hat had made a mistake. I rolled my eyes as I sat between Al and Malfoy.

"Gotta love family, right?" I said to no one in particular, my voice practically dripping in sarcasm.

Scorpius grinned at me and spread his arms out wide in a welcoming gesture. "Welcome to Slytherin."

I hope you enjoyed it! Please review:)
