Starr woke up one January morning feeling colder than usual. She tried to get comfortable and go back to sleep but she couldn't. She had a feeling that something was terrible and she found her thoughts drifting to her daughter Hope. Hope was growing up so fast, she had just turned two this past November and Starr could remember the day that she was born perfectly.

Starr tossed and turned for about an hour when she went to check on Hope. She blinked her eyes twice trying to come up with a plausible explanation. Instead of a toddler's size bed with her daughter in it, there was a day bed with a fourteen year old girl sleeping in it.

Everything in the room had changed. There were no stuffed animals. Instead of the posters of the Disney Princess there were posters of hot famous guys. There was even a framed picture of the girl in the bed kissing some guy Starr didn't recognize. Even the pink walls that she had painted with Cole were white now.

Starr walked cautiously to the bed and recognized that the teenage girl had similar facial features that her Hope once had. It was as if Hope had literally grown up over night. Starr felt sick, somebody had to be playing a cruel joke on her.

"Everything is okay Starr. The girl lying in the bed is your daughter Hope. You have watched her grow up for the past fourteen years," Starr heard a male's voice in her head say. She felt compelled to listen to the voice and believe that nothing in her world had changed from yesterday, but there was another part of her that knew that something unexplainable was happening.

Starr's head started pounding as memory after memory had bombarded her mind. She remembered taking Hope to her first day of kindergarten. She remembered the first boy that Hope had a crush on. She remembered the day that Hope first started shaving her legs. She was filled with all these memories of events that Starr knew couldn't have happened.

Starr leaned over and kissed the sleeping girl, her daughter, on the forehead and left.

"That a girl, Starr. She's just your daughter you've had an entire lifetime of memories with her. Nothing is wrong. Everything is normal," Starr heard the man's voice say again. Maybe he was right and there was nothing wrong with her daughter. Her daughter was fourteen, she was just confused before when she thought that she was still two.

Starr looked in the mirror, but she looked like she was still 18. She didn't look or feel old enough to have a fourteen year old kid. "You just look really good for your age," the voice in her head stated again.

Starr decided to go back to bed, she was certain that things would be clearer in the morning. Starr picked up her vibrating cell phone and answered it. "Hello?"

"Starr, you can't believe the man's voice. Your daughter was two yesterday and is fourteen today. There is nothing normal about the situation. Your daughter Hope has S.O.R.A.S."

"What's that?" Starr asked in a panic.

"I'll explain as soon as I get there," Starr heard the familiar voice on the phone say before the line went dead.
