The kunai fell out of Gaara's fingers, a slip of the hand. On its slow decent to the floor, it came in contact with Gaara's wrist. It slid through his skin. A pinch, that was what her felt. He sat stunned for a moment, not moving from his hunched position on the bed. His eyes widened, but other than that there was no change to his face. A line of red slowly began to appear on his pale skin. Slowly a few drops of blood dripped to the floor. Gaara slowly leant over and picked up the traitor of a weapon. He let his eyes look out the window, the moon shined in and lit up his floor. He looked around the bare room, he was staying in Konaha. Visiting his old friends. Old friends, Naruto…

Without a second thought Gaara brought the dark kunai onto his skin. Relishing the little pinch it sent though his body. His new cut was deeper, it hurt. He could feel the pain. He knew it was real. Gaara laid back on his bed. Not caring about the blood on the white sheets. Without even looking at his white body, he had made a small one inch cut on his chest. it wasn't enough. It might never be enough. He didn't feel satisfied. He needed to feel the hurt. The Kunai again sliced skin. Over and over, till his entire ribcage was covered with thin bleeding lacerations.

Gaara finally felt the real pain hit him, the real pain. His skin felt aflame, but worse his heart felt alone. More alone than ever. There was no one to know…no one to care. He had let the only people that loved him down. He would have given them anything, everything. Naruto…he would have given him anything. If given the chance he still would. Kankuro and Temari, he could never find the words to let them know just what they meant to him. All his people, he was their leader. He had let them down. He had let Gaara down. Gaara let the kunai fall.

Tears began to poor freely from his eyes, his uncrying eyes. The eyes of a stone cold killer. He curled up in his bed as he felt himself crack down the middle. He had never felt such pain in his heart in so long. He didn't know he still could. Everyone he knew would leave him in the end. He was always and forever going to be alone. Why would someone care about him, and his empire of dirt? He had let them down.

Gaara cried himself to sleep that night.

Naruto bounced into Gaaras room bright and early. He was about to shout when what he saw stopped him dead in his tracks. Blood was pressed onto the sheets. Naruto was afraid for his friend, had he been assassinated? Naruto silently sighed when he saw Gaara move. Naruto realized what the blood was from. The kunai sat on the floor like a foul enemy. Naruto walked quietly to the bed. He peeled away the white sheet gently. Gaara was covered in so many cuts. Naruto began to cry.

Gaaras eyes opened for only a second, then they were shut tight.

"I'm sorry, I have let you down." Said the solemn boy.

"No, Gaara…" Naruto said nothing more, but climbed into the blood encrusted sheets with the boy and held him close as the tears began to fall.
