Title: Berserk

Summary: The Cheshire-Cat has other plans. Alice is not Alice. Everything is all wrong.

Tick.

Tick.

Tock.

The golden pocket-watch with the cracked surface ticks loud, loud, louder. Purple eyes that used to be blue stare blankly at nothing in particular. A cup of tea in one hand and a tattered old hat with 10/6 on the brim sits at the top of the chair.

Wake up now.

She blinks. Once, twice. A sinister smile forms on the girl's pale, pale face. Alice is awake. But wait, she shouldn't be. She should be dead. It's not often that one survives a beheading. Alice's hand goes to her neck. Oh. There are stitches to keep her head in place.

She looks down to see the drying blood stains on her collar and front of her ragged blue dress. Alice blinks. She should be afraid, she should be angry, she should feel pain-she should feel something. But Alice is numb. Alice is not alive.

Well of course not, you silly girl. Who ever heard of a puppet that was alive?

One eye, then two appears in the air of wispy, purple smoke. A menacing grin appears with the eyes. "Cheshire Puss," Alice says. Her voice is a monotone; she is devoid of many emotions. The floating grin grows wider. "Where are the others? What has become of Wonderland?"

"Dead, dead, dead. And Wonderland? Not so wonderful. You can thank the Red Queen for that," he answers. Alice stares blankly with her purple used-to-be-blue eyes. "Dead?" she repeats. "Dead as a doornail." The Cheshire-Cat looks at her with glowing yellow eyes and waits for her to make another remark. When it's clear that she won't, he continues on.

"The Red Queen has killed all your friends, Alice. And, let's not forget, she's killed you too. What will you do Alice? To get your revenge, what will you do?" he inquires. "Kill her," she responds almost automatically, "Down with the Bloody Red Queen." The Cheshire-Cat lets out a laugh. "Down with the Bloody Red Queen!" he repeats joyously.

"And then Alice," he goes on, "You and I, we will rule Wonderland. Doesn't that sound fantastic?" She nods slowly. "But let's not get ahead of ourselves, Alice dear. Rest up first and then to-morrow we go. Why after all, you must get a good night's sleep. You must look your best when we visit the Red Kingdom," he tells her. "So sleep pet. Sleep."

Alice's eyes grow heavy. The Cheshire-Cat starts to disappear, first the eyes, and the grin last (like always, like always). His laugh rings in her ears until her eyes close shut. It's quiet. Silence in the dark. The golden pocket-watch with the cracked surface ticks loud, loud, louder.

Tick.

Tick.

Tock.
