Red bit her lip. Sabrina was complaining to Ms. Grim again.
"The girl tried to kill us! Pease, Granny. Just leave her in the streets. The orphanage will pick her up. Make Snow White take her- she's always had a soft spot for small people… do anything! Just don't let her live under this roof! She'll murder us in our beds!" Red quickly left. She didn't want to hear Ms. Grim's reply. Eavesdropping was not the right thing to do, anyhow. This family had fed her and given her a room even after she set a Jabberwocky on them. They had attended to her needs without a murmur- all except Sabrina. Oh, how she wished Sabrina would like her. Red sat in her room, and picked up her one true connection to her past life. The gold locket gleamed on her fair skin. Red unsnapped the clasp with shaking fingers, and stared at the picture. She saw that she had gotten her hair from her mom. Her eyes too. Her mom was confident, though. Red was not. Red carefully placed the locket back into her dresser drawer, just in time for Sabrina to storm in. Red jumped, and readied herself for the tirade that was about to come out of Sabrina's mouth.
"Listen, Hood. You hurt Daphne, or Granny, or Mr. Canis, or ANYONE ever again, you will PAY. Understand?" Red squeezed her fists tight in an effort to hold back the tears. She nodded.
"Good." Sabrina stomped out. Red's breath came in hitches. Sabrina was right not to trust her. She was evil. But she had reformed… right? Red let the hot tears come. One at a time.

Red sat in her new hiding place. Granny- how strange to call her that- had given her the keys to the Hall of Wonders. The linen closet. It was full of magical clothing, but Red didn't care. Her red cape, though, it was a curse. The monster inside her stirred. She screamed, and ripped it off, and stomped on it… faster… and faster… and faster. The monster woke, roaring. It would pay! It would die for the memories it brought back! Red collapsed, sobbing on a king's robe. But… she felt someone hugging her. She turned, her face tearstained. Daphne was hugging her waist. Red felt the monster melt back into a kitten.
"Why-" I begin.
"You're lonely. My sister is being an extreme jerkazoid. And I like you."
"But… I'm a monster. I killed for no good reason." Daphne took out a yellow hairbrush and began de-tangling Red's curls.
"You are NOT a monster. The madness was. The madness is gone, so now you're fine. You're nice now." Red smiled tearfully. To have a child's logic again. Daphne pulled Red to her feet. "You can come out with me. Granny made cake." Red grinned. She stood up- but paused. She fingered the ties of her cape. She grasped the end of one. Did she deserve to let her burden go? She knew that she was not evil now, but… Red tugged the pull, and the cape cascaded to the floor where it landed like a pool of blood. Red tood Daphne's hand, and walked off in search of cake, leaving the hardness of the past behind her.
