Lullaby
Percy and Annabeth were lying in Percy's room on the Argo II, tangled in cool, white sheets. The fan on the ceiling blew soft wind that was just strong enough to tousle the couples' hair. Annabeth smiled to herself at how perfect her life was right at that moment. In bed with Percy, cuddling to say the least, with no pesky monsters or Gods interrupting them. It was late at night, Annabeth squinted at the digital clock on Percy's nightstand. Of course he had a digital clock. He had always hated how she had circular clocks with hands because he could never tell the time. Percy would spend several minutes glaring at the clock, desperately attempting to figure out the time. What a Seaweed Brain.
The bold, red numbers read 11:46. Annabeth knew she should be sleeping and she could tell that Percy was awake, too. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt and ran his fingers through his hair, silently. He was no doubt thinking about his duel with Jason. He had ever since continued to wonder who the more powerful demigod was. Annabeth could comfort him about it and act like a good girlfriend by telling him that he was definitely more powerful and that Jason was nothing compared to him and blah, blah, blah. And there was almost no contest that Percy was more powerful but she decided to take his mind off of the battle completely, instead.
"Sing me a lullaby." she demanded.
He rolled onto his side to face her. "What did you just ask me?" He inquired with great distaste.
"I asked you to sing me a lullaby, Seaweed Brain."
He puffed air from his cheeks and snorted, "You know I can't sing."
"Well I've never heard you sing before," she pushed. "So how can I be so sure?"
"Just take my word," he rolled his beautiful sea green eyes, "And spare your ears. I don't and will not sing."
"Aha!" Annabeth exclaimed, "Is it that you can't sing or that you won't sing?"
"Both." he shrugged.
"Aww please?" she persuaded. "For me? You love me right?"
"Of course."
"Then sing for me."
"C'mon, Annabeth!"
"I bet Jason would sing for Piper."
"Really, this is how you're going to play this out?"
"Yes."
"Alright, fine."
Annabeth silently celebrated her victory, "Go on." she urged after several seconds had passed.
"Erm," Percy bit his lip, "What song? And I'm only singing a little bit!"
Annabeth stroked her chin before deciding, "You are my Sunshine."
"It couldn't have been a manlier song?"
"It's a lullaby, stupid."
"Fine. Only because I love you."
"Why else?"
"Here goes nothing:
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You'll never know dear, how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away."
His voice was higher than Annabeth had expected, and truthfully better. She couldn't help but grin as he poked her as he sang.
"You call that a bad voice."
"Well I know it's not bad, I just say that to get out of singing."
"You liar! It's a good thing you're so attractive."
"What if I wasn't?"
"Then I would punch you."
"So what are you going to do to me now since I am so stunningly attractive."
"I'm going to kiss you."
"Good idea."
Sure to say, Annabeth fell asleep shortly after that.
